and apparently Notice: The Zimbabwe dollar has been suspended indefinitely.
Zimbabwean Dollar History
In January 2009, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe permitted the use of foreign currency in Zimbabwe in response to an economic decline that caused inflation levels of 5 billion percent. By April 2009, the Zimbabwe dollar was suspended indefinitely; the government now uses the South African Rand, the United States Dollar, and the British Pound. For more information, read the BBC's "Zimbabwe dollar 'not back soon'".

Nah, and the following verifies what I stated in my first post.....

Notice: The Zimbabwe dollar has been suspended indefinitely.

We got a LOT of African emigrés in my town over the last few years that were filling me in on what was up over there.
I think most of 'em went to Canada. They must like......:heh:

This name Mandela is an albatross around the necks of my family. You all must realize that Mandela was not the only man who suffered. There were many others, hundreds who languished in prison and died. Many unsung and unknown heroes of the struggle, and there were others in the leadership too, like poor Steve Biko, who died of the beatings, horribly all alone. Mandela did go to prison and he went in there as a burning young revolutionary. But look what came out
-Winnie Mandela

:sadcam:

BUT luckily most young south africans..... and most young pan africanist, and militant pro blacks around the world are currently seeing past the illusion they want us to believe. At the same time I sorta feel bad for what them cac did to Mandela. IT was like MK Ultra without the chemicals. He was Perfect to lead us into sacrificing dignity for 'hope' of luxury and protection. They only love the ones that manipulate us into buying into human unity at the expense of black unity and power. But by the time I'm 45 or 50.........:whew:. There's so much off the internet shyt going down yall wouldn't believe. :ohlawd:

Mandela is too smart for you.

Mugabe took the land and gave it to the black farmers who had no skills to operate the farms...I will let you guess what has happened to the country.

Anyone who supports Mugabe is sick in the head and has never been to the country.

The people are desperate beyond measure.
Zimbabwe is the true definition of hell on earth, trust me I have been there.

Easily the worst 4 days of my life. No reliable water, electricity and the basic stuff humans take for granted are a nightmare to get.
:laff: fukk outta here, you've never been to Zim. Where did you supposedly stay? Anyone who has actually been there can tell you Harare is relatively well developed city, more so than most cities in the region outside SA.

I think this "story" including banning the color white looks like some chain email stuff.Mandela's situation is a lot more nuanced, the comparison with Mugabe misses the point IMO because ANC and ZANU PF are run very differently. ANC is a much more institutionalized party because of their history in exile and how their organization was entrenched in a number of African countries that ended up falling for big man politics. Mandela was the face of the struggle and hence he is the one who seems to have been given the burden of the construction of the post Apartheid economic order. Cyril Ramaphosa,Thabo Mbeki, Chris Hani,Joe Slovo and a host of other leaders of their movement were responsible for the negotiations of how SA would look post Apartheid. Thabo Mbeki is a central figure in the policy battles of the ANC, he was the defacto ruler of South Africa 2 years after independence because Mandela wasnt a policy guy and as Deputy President Mbeki came up or pushed for most of those policies that SA adopted. Mandela had only one term where he effectively was responsible for nation building more than policy making.

Mugabe's first 15-20 years were characterized by the same overtures to the white population, he even agreed to let them have protected seats in the first parliament , retained the white head of intelligence and kept them in positions of power or influence for much of his leadership period. If i am not mistaken the Oppenheimers (owners of DeBeers) are still very large land owners in the country and Van Hoogstraten is also a very huge landowner in the country.

The comparison between the 2 countries are also way off base, SA is the largest economy on the continent whereas Zimbabwe is way smaller in comparison. Any form of ownership in an unstable or weak economy is not beneficial for anyone, for instance taking over a company when many of the skilled people have left to work in SA,Botswana, UK,US is a problem for these business owners. SA has a set up that would have fully benefited black South Africans had their economic policy been aligned with their education system, the people who have he right skills in their country including intermediate skills in manufacturing they would have benefited more.

I know more Zimbabweans across various professions who have crossed the border to work in SA simply because the returns are far higher than in their own country. One of the selling points i have seen from ZANU PF is that "blacks" will own the resources but in reality not all blacks are going to be in a position to own anything, there arent that many companies to go around millions of people and the minerals are always going to be mined by either Government affiliated companies or select foreign companies from South Africa, China and even some Indian companies that have been offered the largest steel making company in the country.

If he went in 2008 or 2009 I could definitely believe him but all five hotels I stayed in at Zim last summer (two in Harare, one in Bulawayo, two in Victoria Falls) had everything we have here (food, water, electricity, working toilets, TV's etc). The Victoria Falls hotels in particular were very very cushy (tourist spot). My grandfather's house and my cousin's house were dishevelled and lacked working toilets but they had running water and electricity.

Take EVERYTHING the western media says about Zimbabwe with a serious grain of salt, especially if it comes from BBC.
