This is different. He wanted to do a project with a bunch of his favorite dudes in the game rapping on his beats. I can't knock him for that.I guess my dreams of another "Marcberg" are pretty much dead...
Why do rappers do this...Deviate from the blue print...?
That's ALWAYS how "falling of starts," by trying to be "different"...This is different. He wanted to do a project with a bunch of his favorite dudes in the game rapping on his beats. I can't knock him for that.

(1) Art is communication, and if people don't understand what you are trying to say, then what good is your art? A good artist wants the public to understand what is it he/she is trying to express...because real artist make real art there way....not whatever other people want it to be

we all didnt know that
true but Roc's style makes it very hard for him to fall off. His rhyme pattern guarantees vivid lyricism and crazy visuals, we know the beats will knock, and those guest verses will be dope. I'm not worried. That's ALWAYS how "falling of starts," by trying to be "different"...

One of the WORST emotions in the world is the sense of "not being understood"...People commit that everyday, because they feel like "nobody understands them" and thus, they become disconnected from the social world...
Being understood is the thin line between great artists who become successful (people respect their work and they capitalize on that) vs. great artists who never become successful (their work remains obscure, and they die broke with mental illnesses)...The Later, are the artists who start making money and getting recognition years after their death...What good is that...?
But this does not apply to this discussion...I am just stating it because you brought that "art" angle...
(2) When a real artist develops a style, he/she masters it and explores every possible angle, and after all avenues have been exhausted, he/she starts thinking outside the box, to come up with something "new"...
Name me a "real artist" who learned and developed a technique only to use once...? Roc Marciano hasn't even done all he can possibly do with that Marcberg vibe he created, and now he is doing all this other different stuff such as rhyming over loops with no drums, multiple features and all kinds of other stuff that don't sound like Marcberg...
Sh+t annoys me when entertainers do this...
(3) If you pay attention to "real artists," they like to give the majority of their fan base more of the signature product (in this case "Marcberg") while in the background, they tweek the signature or develop a new signature, and when they have something they believe in, they present it to the fan base...
(4) Roc needed to do at least 3 albums in the same vein as the "Marcberg"...At least, musically...On the lyrical end, he could have explored different concepts and perspectives...
The Marcberg was genius because of the simplistic loops over heavily compressed hard hitting drums...I have noticed that rap lyrics sound so much better over "simple beats"...For example, whenever a rapper freestyles over "Cream" "Shook Ones Pt 2" "Ambitionz As Ridah" he/she always sounds one level better than they would if they did the same freestyle over some heavily over produced beat...My opinion, of course...
For his follow up, I would have preferred Roc kept the music the same as the Marcberg, and maybe moved away from the "pimp" imagery, and explored different street characters...
Then I would be happy to hear him slowly move away from that formula, by incorporating new sampling techniques and sounds...
These drastic changes are discouraging...
