I don’t think he regressed imo. He’s just more artistic. As a lyricist he’s actually gotten more witty and he be goin the fukk in. He has gotten more abstract after Reloaded but that’s not even directly after Reloaded because Pimpire and Marci Beaucoup are grounded. RR1 is where he got real experimental. RR2 as well but that shyt is dope. Behold is where he came back down to normal Roc shyt. Then he experimented some more with KAOS. But he had a good mixture on Marcielago. He went back to real experimental on this one. But u can kinda tell he was gonna go this direction based on the theme of the album and the album art. To be honest I look at Roc albums like Indie crime movies. Lol. That’s the best way for me to describe it.Most entertaining emcee out right now. He's just fukkery turned up to 11.
You and @Funcrusher have a point IMO. Behold a Dark Horse is my favorite in a long time too, because the beats sounded more grounded and the vocals were mixed better. One of my pet peeves is when people get up in arms about mixing. I see threads on who the best engineers are, and unless it's a rare case like Dr. Dre or if the listener is just an audiophile, most people can't tell the difference if the mixing is decent.
But Roc has some straight up terrible mixing. Rosebudd's Revenge and Marcielago have songs that are hard to listen to without high-quality headphones.
There's even a couple joints here on Mt. Marci where it sounds like he's got marbles in his mouth (Rabbits, Butterfly, Whorus). Someone in here said he might've been rapping with a grill in.
I don’t think he’s regressed at all either. If anything I think he’s way more advanced. I should’ve worded better. I guess what I was saying is that he’s gotten so advanced I can’t just listen anytime like I used too. He’s become more like DOOM to me, in that I’ve really got to be in a mood to pay heavy attention. It’s not a negative. I think he might be the best emcee on earth right now. I just sometimes prefer the easier listening of reloaded, marcberg, dark horse, and a couple others. Not always. But sometimes.I don’t think he regressed imo. He’s just more artistic. I def feel u. He’s def very artistic these days. U never know what version of him u gonna get from album to album.I don’t think he’s regressed at all either.
