No way Rock doing that job for Austin at WM 17 was a bigger deal than WM 3

Inflated numbers don't change the fact that Rock vs Austin II is the biggest domestic PPV ever

you seem to basing that solely on a number though. yes i'm sure there are more people that bought wm17 on ppv than there were people that bought wm3, but there are multiple reasons for that. i don't know if based on that number alone i would just arrive at the conclusion that rock vs austin is the biggest mach ever.

the biggest match ever imo is still hogan and andre. not just because it smashed all the records of it's time, but also because of what it would lay the foundation for. the wrestling business flourished for years after that. with rock and austin, the business tanked.

when i think rock and austin, i think the end of an era.
when i think hogan and andre, i think the most pivotal match in wrestling history.

I was just playing his game..but in reality, it's a 5 star match that livedd up to the hype in every way that no other main event in the history of WM has been able to touch. WM 26(Michaels vs Taker)..no one talks about that shyt anymore. Seen as a numbed down version of the WM 25 lower tier match. Hogan vs Andre..great spectacle but terrible match....Lesnar vs Angle? Crowd was nearly chanting boring and Lesnar damn near broke his neck cause he didn't know how to hit a spot. Rock vs Austin III and the Hogan/Vince match is what WM 19 was left with. WM 21 Batista vs Cripple H? People on this forum would rather talk about Nash than bring that match up:laugh: WM 22 Cena vs Cripple H? Mickie vs Trish and MITB II left that in the dust....WM 23 Michaels vs Cena got hilarious low reaction:laugh: Piper stole the heat from both of them before WM. WM 5 Macho vs Hogan? Macho was on his game but Hogan did his formula match but it wasn't 5 stars. Hogan vs Warrior..fun sight. Toronto was good for both of those guys but nowhere near the workrate of Rock vs Austin II.

And don't try to act like Austin vs Rock II brought the business down. Vince and his beef with WCW and other acts is why the rest of 2001 went down how it did. Invasion did a 700k buyrate and him making WCW the heels and not dishing the money out for Goldberg and Sting messed all of that up. Not to mention when Rock left television ratings took a hit it never recovered from.

When you think of Austin vs Rock, it was wrestling at it's height and something EVERYONE in our generation talked about.
Hogan vs Andre is what set the mainstream portion of everything off but with the help Rocky III and everything else that went along with that timeframe.

Rocky 3 was in 1982 and Wrestlemania 3 was 5 years later in 1987.

Nobody is saying it was the best in ring performance ever but it is easily by far the biggest match in Wrestling history.

eh, i guess you can make the argument. i just disagree. to me hogan/andre will always be the biggest, most important, most pivotal match in history.

and yes i'm sorry i do have to credit the rock/austin match for playing it's part in bringing an end to the golden age. there were obviously other (perhaps even greater) factors at play, but that swerve finish did them absolutely NO favors and stalled just about any momentum they could have used going forward.

Hogan/Andre and Hogan/Macho Man were the two biggest Wrestlemania Main Event's of All-time. The numbers they did was amazing and better then Rock/Austin 2 considering the era and time that it took place. Hogan and Savage were both in their prime when they fought and at their peak The Rock was on his way down and was at his peak at Wrestlemania 16 and the Austin face character had become stale as well at that point.

There was no Rock on the way down and Macho vs Hogan damn sure was anywhere near the Rock/Austin numbers. That's an insane comment. And greatest was Rock vs Austin....you can play with those WM 3 inflated numbers but no match lived up to the hype like Rock vs Austin II...it was such a success that you had the entire audience in 2008 wanting them to do it again

How can anyone even argue this unless you're a Hardcore Austin or Rock fanatic.

I'm sorry but late 80's and 90's babies who loved the attitude era have tried to re-write history and it started the downfall of WWE.

Rock vs Austin is now way bigger than WM 3 or WM 5...

So you're trying to say that The Rock was as over at WM17 then he was at WM 16? :dahell:

that is another crucial point that needs to be pointed out. shawn peaked as a heel, rock peaked as a fan favorite. and there is little doubt in my mind who would have the crowd if the 2 ever crossed paths in their prime.

but in my opinion it takes a true pantheon great to peak as a fan favorite. although of course there are also guys like hbk, flair and savage...that peaked as heels imo.

Rock is the better baby face but HBK is a better Heel....

Although Hollywood Rock was money.

nikkas are really saying that Rock/Austin was bigger than Hogan/Andre?:what:

Yes more people bought Wrestlemania x-7 but that's because it was in 2001 and not 1987. Not everyone could just get PPV at the crib like that back then.
