In retrospect Harden will have deserved this even though they probably should have waited till he retired to announce this. He broke multiple scoring records while with them and led them to the playoffs consistently. For all of his faults he gave them nearly a decade of excellence and lesser players have been rewarded with the same honor.

Retired Houston Rockets: I guess he's done asmuch as Yao. Clyde was only there 4 years, but he got a ring.

If they retire it now and he goes back to Houston to close his career, can he still wear the 13? :jbhmm:

He averaged 29/6/7 over an 8 year span, put the franchise back on the map, multiple deep playoff runs, multiple All-NBA's, MVP, historical numbers etc. Team was never really favorite to win anything, but he kept them elite for a long stretch. To put it simple he had a legendary run there, this was bound to happen. :yeshrug:
It’s basically like asking why did Philly retire Iversons number.

Let me guess, people thought they were retiring his jersey that night he came back to Houston?
