Romney: I’m Not Some ‘Wizard of Oz’ For The Establishment

On this weekend’s broadcast of “Fox News Sunday,” 2012 Republican presidential nominee Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) said he is not some Republican establishment “Wizard of Oz” pulling the strings trying to stop the GOP nomination of Donald Trump.

Partial transcript as follows:

WALLACE: Here is the criticism that I heard from some people, and I guess that would include Rush Limbaugh, about your speech. You certainly have a right, you know, the First Amendment is there to criticize Donald Trump and say why he’d be a bad president. But some people say that your speech was — their words — condescending, even un-democratic in the sense that, in effect, you’re saying folks who are voting for Trump don’t know what they’re doing.

ROMNEY: No, I think folks need to understand the whole background of Donald Trump. I find from time to time, I talk to people about the campaign and they say, gosh, I didn’t know that Donald Trump gave a bunch of money to Jimmy Carter and to Hillary Clinton and to
Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV)
and to John Kerry.

They hear from Donald Trump that he’s such an extraordinary success. They didn’t know about Trump airlines and Trump mortgages and Trump vitamin network and Trump steaks and Trump Taj Mahal. They didn’t realize a lot of small people have been crushed by Donald Trump’s rise to become a very wealthy man, successful financially, but this is a guy who has not been a uniform success.

As they learn about him, a lot of them say, you know, I want to make sure I take a closer look at the other guys in the race.

WALLACE: How about the argument and, again, we heard this from rush, this is the establishment basically trying to maintain control of a guy — and push back a guy they wouldn’t be able to control.

ROMNEY: Well, you can’t control
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)
for instance. No one has suggested you could do that and
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)

79%
, everyone tried to stop Marco Rubio from going against a sitting Republican governor in Florida. He did it anyway and won.

Establishment suggests there must be some Wizard of Oz somewhere pulling the strings. That’s not the way it works. There are individuals like myself. I sat there and watched Donald Trump, and I said, look, someone has got to say something.

I didn’t talk to anybody and say, “I’m going to do a speech, do you go some ideas?” This is something I did on my own because I care very deeply about the country.

I love America. I’m concerned about America and I believe the heart and soul of conservatives and Republicans recognize that the principles that Donald Trump is talking about have nothing to do with conservatism, nothing to do with keeping America strong.

Yeah keep talking down to voters. It seems to be working fine

They talked down to people voting for Obama as well. Especially blacks, claiming that we're "Only voting for him because of skin color." I do enjoy their implication that blacks are too stupid to research a candidate......

Funny thing is they're now seeing it's their own base of poor and middle class white voters that are entirely too stupid to research the guy they're voting for and it's scaring the fukk out of them. A large portion of their base is borderline retarded in terms of intelligence because they routinely vote against their own interests, but all that shyt is finally biting them in the ass. :mjlol:

If your options are Cruz and trump smart people absolutely would be voting for her. Voting for Bernie over her makes no sense to me either though. I'm of the general idea that a majority of voters don't do any research on the candidates. At least the middle class and poor voters on the left vote in their own interests unlike their counterparts on the right.

I just find it hilarious that it took their counterparts on the right this long to realize the elites in the GOP had been using them, and now instead of holding the elites responsible their turning to people they don't understand to help them.... It's not going to end well for them either.

Left voting for their interests. What are people's interests?

You're not giving anything. What are these interests that voting democrat makes possible?
Not giving anything? To who? What are you talking about?

In my opinion voting D = voting for the lesser of 2 equals. The ONLY reason I am voting Democrat is to keep Ted Cruz or Donald Trump from picking the next SC justice.

But it's clear who the Dems are seeking to serve- the poor would gain from their expansion of social programs, immigrants would gain from their less combative stance on immigration, folks on the fringes (i.e. LBGT, potheads) will continue to gain from their pushes in social issues. GOP is still the party of Lee Atwater, looking to reverse all the advances made in legal equality over the last century. Anyone who is not a straight native born white man who enjoys owning property, being able to vote and having equal representation under the law doesn't have much reason to vote for any of the GOP's frontrunners IMO.

Not voting for the party looking to revert the country back to 1953.

Why should a black person feel any remorse for immigration? Who gives a fukk about meaningless politics when unemployment amongst black males is high and wages are stagnant? An SC justice is the most important to you? You must be top 25%. Lucky SOB.

Black people need legal firearms more than anybody to protect themselves from criminals and law enforcement. Dems will infringe on that. The economy is the key determinant for my vote. The Dems have been selling us out to the highest bidder since Clinton. Private prisons, Wall Street, insurance companies, etc. what's next?

I'm an immigrant :yeshrug:

Obama has made zero inroads on gun restrictions over the last 7 years. Just lip service. Sanders comes from a pro gun state and has voted as much. Hillary is a crap shoot. So that's a wash. Not to mention Dems supposedly are bad for guns (despite no changes over Obama's admin legally), but is taking on the dirty LEOs that prompt you to feel the need for protection in the first place. GOP meanwhile has proudly shyt on BLM; Trump wants to give those dirty cops MORE power and the right in general has played their general victim blaming card. How do you see that issue getting any better with the GOP?

Not sure what your implication is on the economy. Do you think the GOP will do a better job, when the poorest states and counties in the country are deeply red, Reaganomics/"trickle down economics" has been an abject failure and the GOP is just as in bed with big business as Hillary?

Like I said breh this election is merely a choice between 2 evils. I think Hillary is full of shyt and have said as much. The Dems have perpetually failed on the economy, just like the GOP, and I agree that that should be the top priority. The only real difference between the two comes down to civil rights and you have to be an idiot to think the GOP is looking to advance that cause in any capacity.

I am with Trump mainly because he isn't being bought or a part of the establishment. That speaks volume. Nothing is free and Hillary was recently in bed with private prisons until Sanders exposed her and she stopped taking their money. At least Trump dares to say something different and real versus these by the book keep the current structure going robots. Reaganomics in a nutshell, stabilized inflation. It fukks up some stuff but it didn't destroy everyone's wealth. If neither Trump or Sanders gets nominated or wins, the narrative is out and people are disconnecting from the matrix. No more pushing unimportant issues like gay marriages. The president-elect and congress have to start back working for the people and not special-interest groups and corporations.

because if there's one thing republicans are against, it's wealthy capitalists doing this, right :rudy:
