Who's to say it hasn't always been there. Hell Pat Riley himself was talking about the Disease of More back in the late 80s with the Lakers who were winning. It's only natural that once somebody has tasted winning now they want the individual accolades and attention. Early 80s you had Norm Nixon battling Magic for the PG spotlight. Late 70s you had the Sixers all battling Dr J to be the man. The teams that had the most sustained winning all had their best or second best player being unselfish players with all around games (Pippen, Russell, Duncan, Magic) who weren't primarily scorers. The problem with Kyrie and Lebron is they both are best with the ball in their hand and so it's natural that Kyrie feels like he is being marginalized having to share the ball. Most of us think he's wrong and this is his best situation but he's at that age where he's ready to step out of Lebron's shadow and show the world the player he thinks he can be.

Nah as much as i shyt on Kobe lovers Kobe took the title as the man and played both sides of the ball like a man on a mission
i always said that was separates star form superstar if you have nothing but trash on your team and you can get your team to at least the 2nd round of the playoff with bums your a damn monster

Skill level ain't near the same but the mentality is. It's easy to say that about Kobe now, but at the time he forced Shaq out (yes he forced the trade before he agreed to resign which is why the Lakers rushed it) people were saying the exact same shyt about him. How he's not good enough to carry a team or be the number one player. How Shaq carried him and he should be appreciative of the situation he was in. That he's destined to lead .500 teams for the rest of his career and would never win again.
Hell I think even the team situations are the same. The Lakers were capped out and really didn't have much outside of Kobe and Shaq. Shaq was unmotivated to get in shape. I think the Lakers with those two could've been contenders but I don't think they would've been able to win another title. Same way I look at the Cavs going up against GS. They'll still be contenders I just don't see them as a title team.

I think the game is marketed different compared to that era, so today's players are much more inundated with back of the jersey first mentality.
It really took off during the Costas soliloquies about MJ as "Michael vs (random team)_____" was the opening act for much of the 90s.

Harper could play. He was lethal on offense when he wanted to be and MJ specifically wanted Harper on the team (read 'The Jordan Rules' a must-read for any real NBA fan, it's about the Bulls during their reign). Also: he took a backseat on production to help MJ and the Bulls..
That said.. I can get that Kyrie is seriously ok with playing WITH a superstar but is also seriously tired of playing UNDER THE WINGS of a superstar. This whole 'that's my kid brother' thing.. is nuts. He's a grown man now and he can wreck practically anybody in the league 1-on-1.. treat him like that.
With the Warriors (I don't like them) I see more 'equality' in the team and they seem to have more mutual respect.
LeBron is really on this 'LeBron is the leader' trip a bit TOO much. He treats dudes making 80 million like Mario Chalmers at training or something..
