Hov can promote liquor, inspire certain trends etc.. but he can't inspire people to give back? Do some of you not realize how ass backwards that is/was? What real benefit is it for people on that level, like Jay Z, Bey, K.dot, Cole etc to give in secret instead of making some of that shyt public and inspiring a whole bunch of other people to follow them and do the same.

And why are people acting like this if the first and only time Drake has given back and he put it on video? This video was meant for inspiration, not as a "look at me"?

Let's be honest of Jay did that most of y'all would call it disingenuous. Just like all the introspective or thought provoking music he's come out with... it's contrived by default because it's Jay. Anything Jay has done that has ant substance had been called faked. It's better he's gives without the public knowing

Drake just did that shyt for promotion
You know his team Ain't stupid
Why don’t everyone give out mad dough for promotion?

What’s the difference between doing it for promotion and being good hearted?

How you can have hate in your heart or question the genuine nature of the video after watching it, I’ll never understand :wow:

Don't think anyone hated folks just thought it was all part of a album role out .

Some thought it didn't look genuine .

Doesn't matter thatvwas real money so his reasoning doesn't even matter .

You give in public = you're fake

You give in private and people find out = you're fake

You give in private and nobody finds out = you're a sucka, because you don't give

When it comes to "us", the best course of action is to do whatever you feel like doing, and don't even seek out the reaction because some nikkas in general are set to the default setting of "hate", and we all know that 100 haters are louder than 1,000 fans and infinitely louder than the 10,000 who don't even give a reaction.

I probably should have been more specific - I meant the Hip-Hop community, and our general nature of skepticism which more often than not shows it's face in the form of side-eyes and "hate"

I'm not asking people to take things at face value, but instead of starting from an angle of ":mjpls:" when we see something like this or Jay showing up in Miami for the Trayvon march, we should be more like ":ehh:" and start from there.

Hope that clears it up.

Yea it clear it up .

So let's talk about it I felt people thought it was fake because of what we know of drake .

I made a thread about why does drake get a pass on social responsibility .

I said he uses all the good parts of hip hop but never sheds light on any important issues .

So when you see a video like this is feels fake I'm not gonna lie .

Like breh this ain't even you and I'm not saying he never donated to anyone before .

To my earlier point doesn't matter the money was real and the people appreciated it .

Well, to be completely honest about myself, I talked about "default settings" above, and how most start from a place of ":mjpls:", I've always been a person who started from :yeshrug:

I don't have strong feelings about Drake one way or the other, he's OK, can be really good, can make me cringe musically so it's whatever, but on the point of his social responsibility, or lack thereof, and this feeling "fake" to you, if you were Drake, or on his team, what would you have him do?

What way would you have liked his social responsibility or philanthropy to have shown it's face?

I'm the kind of person who doesn't like people who don't have alternatives or solutions. Calling something into question or raising your hand and saying "No, I don't like this" is very easy, what's hard is having an answer or an alternative solution.

I don't criticise albums or music or art of any kind without being able to at least bring up a point or two to how I would have changed it/done it myself or pointing directly at what felt wrong about it and why.

So the question is - for you, what should he have done and how should he have done it? If this feels fake, what does the real version feel like?

I don't know what brehs in Canada go through .

If you take this forum and drakes music you would think their is never any racism .

I wanna know what were his struggles growing up being half black .

What are the social injustice happening to blacks in Canada .

Don't need a whole album just a song or two .

He's a decent story teller so would be interesting instead of hearing about searching a strippers bag.

He never speaks on anything period till either he's almost forced too or it blew over a little bit .

It's almost cowardly honestly .

Then his passive aggressive ass wanna say I'm not good enough for black excellence .

I agree. With pretty much every point.

Speaking as someone who isn't Canadian or Drake, I would assume (maybe wrongly), that if he has been through anything it'd probably come off sounding like "first world problems" in comparison to someone who has come from real struggle or been through real shyt.

I'm sure there is stuff going on in Canada, but from what I know and what I've seen, it does seem like a pretty chill place. I've heard the outskirts are cold and rural and there's drug problems, but the bigger places (Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal) seem pretty solid. Not peachy, but solid. Being half black in Carolina (Cole), is probably harder than being half black in Toronto, where most people are half something.

So then the question is - is this an artform that is only reserved for those who've been through struggle? Does a guy or girl who hasn't had a hard life have the right to make rap music, even if they show a talent for it?

He either has to "third party" his attempt to make social commentary and use other people's struggle as a way to say something (ie. the God's Plan video), or talk about his struggles, which probably aren't that deep, and end up sounding like Mackelmore and that song "White Privelage"

Then there's the angle he's taken, which most people often disregard as lame, where he talks about his "feelings". The whole "does she love me for me?" thing. I find it to be very pandering and often sounds like a dude who knows women are eavesdropping so he says things he thinks they want to hear, but just because his reality is shallow, doesn't mean it's not his reality.

It's too late to turn into Jesse Williams (which is actually very easy for Jesse Williams to do, because we know ZERO about Jesse Williams. I don't even know what city he's from, whereas with Drake, I pretty much know what his mother and father look like)

So, what does he do? Seems to me that the point he was trying to make to Rosenberg in their phone call was "Bro, I'm doing my best. If I can't do this what can I do?"
