If that's so, then indict him for his lack of knowledge, not his lack of melanin.
There's something inherently problematic in him having a position of authority or respect. The fact that he clearly isn't the expert he's supposed to be compounds the problem.

Well that's the media in general. It foists gatekeepers or people with popularity and uses that as the metric. We're more concerned with labels than anything else. The same reason CNN or MSNBC just labels people "Political experts."

He was never popular though. He was plucked from relative obscurity in DC. He was making Youtube parody videos of popular rap songs and DJ'n at a McDonalds in Adams Morgan. A year later he was on Hot 97 :dahell:

There were plenty of rappers from the 90s as good or better than Kendrick when it came to their skillset. I think if we evaluate projects though, thats where Kendrick separates himself.
For example, I consider Pharoahe Monche to be a better technical rapper than Kendrick. But if Im evaluating the legacy of whole projects, then that skill gap gets somewhat negated.

Yeah, I'd definitely put breh over Kendrick bar for bar.

His projects never connected with me though outside of Stress

If you use this system, Rakim is gonna win easily.

not if you include the past 14 years where its been mostly the same names on rinse & repeat.

somebody like rick ross will probably finish 1st.

Kendrick wouldn't have made any noise in 96, 97, or 98....maybe 99 as well

he wouldn't have even made any noise in the 2000s.

u stated this black nerds nonsense quite a few times... dont confuse nerds with street intellects

I'm not.

I know the difference.

you seem offended. why is that?

id say thats also just nostalgia, rhyming has evolved over the decades, cant say if its objectivly better or worse tbh

theres more to hip-hop than just rhyming.

even Rosenberg's list isn't based off of just rhyming.

hip-hop is currently at its lowest state. theres been no spec of evolution over the past decade or so.

and even if we're talking about just rhyming. the names I mentioned from the late '70s can still go today in their old age.
