If you don’t think Premier been stagnant for years I don’t know what you’re listening to. If you took a random unheard beat from Dre or The Alchemist most fans could nail down the year it was created within 2-3 years. With Preme if you did the same, anywhere from 1998-2017 is likely. That’s not to say what he does isn’t good for what it is, but he has for sure stagnated and doesn’t put as much of priority on evolving and changing his sound as some others do.

I was listening to Daily Operation, Hard to Earn, and Living Proof the other day and all I kept thinking was I miss when he still took risks with his production

I remember hearing this and not listening again so maybe I will re visit. I thought the first one was a lot better personally and this one fell flat IMO. With Premo and Royce I figured it would be another banger but off a few listens I didn't like it nearly as much. I will revisit this today since it's upped and see if that changed any.

Those are classics and both of you are right.... Since about 2000 on he has made some bangers but yes I agree he has gotten stagnant pretty much and not changed it up like he used to early on from say Daily Operation to Hard To Earn to Moment... One of the GOATS for sure but that is correct.

This album wasn't very good. Some of the beats didn't even sound like Primo at all

As much as I applaud the "use sounds from one producer" concept. I kinda wish we got a straight up Royce x Primo album with that core sound

I always thought this pairing and album (1st one was better) was slightly overrated. But still refreshing “traditional” hip hop
