Upside Down is the only song even in the same league as Cocaine or Power from Book of Ryan

Album got some heat. No need for the skits, though they fit the premise I guess

ok so i gave it a good spin over the weekend because i'm from the school where you consume the album multiple times before you give a real opinion as oppose to the first listen.

The album is a solid 4 and i'm probably on the minority that actually thinks the every skit fits the narrative of the album. I get what Royce was trying to do with this album and the newly found WOKE side of him has come out on this project. I personally feel that's cool for a few songs, not the whole concept of an album. When you have the audience feel like you're trying to teach for a full project, you'll start turning people off. That's why i've always been a fan of having a BALANCE on an album. "Hero" to me is classic Royce, went in, one of the best beats on the album he produced and flow wise, that was his best joint. Like someone said earlier, that they felt that royce sacrificed Flow for more input in his rhymes and i agree with that. I want the Royce that flowed on "Death is certain" "Independence day" era (flow wise, again, not the album's content). I think i'ma a fan when Royce gets ignorant and talks shyt on his songs, i think that's when he gets creative with his rhymes but again i'm glad he's found peace in his life and is at a great state of mind because being an alcoholic is no joke and hard to overcome if anything.

Played this album while in the whip with my 13 yr old step son and he was bopping his head and paying attention (i can tell when he starts squinting). So for all that is worth while he enjoyed the album as i did, i don't want another album produced entirely by Royce and want more joints like the ones in street hop/death is certain with top tier production and maybe even experiment with today's producers. :ehh:

Book of Ryan was more of a testimonial introspective biopic type album. A lot of nostalgia and story telling for the most part. The Allegory is filled with conscious rhymes and “woke” content. I think he pulled it off perfectly on both albums. There’s a bit much for the number of amount of features but everyone delivered for the most part. Lyrically this could be considered his best.

I only half agree with your sentiments, but I get the gist and appreciate your viewpoints with this piece.

Nah it's not even close to those 2 tracks but it's a good song in it's own right.

Musically this album doesn't hit for me. I can't see myself replaying this album much. Maybe it'll grow one me. But after a few listens nothing really sticking out and no real bangers.

I listened to the first half of the album and so far, it hasn't hit that second gear for me. Like I'm waiting for a real, unmistakable banger like "Caterpillar" or "Black History" and it hasn't come yet. Or is this not the album for that?

It's just weird. Maybe it's because I've only heard Royce on certain tracks and Eminem features, but he doesn't even sound the same. There were times I had trouble recognizing his voice because he switched it up so much. And I know that "You Gon' Learn" was a song Royce gave to Eminem for his album, so I came in expecting something really good and so far, it's just decent.

This shyt is a masterpiece :whew:

Yeah, I don't think ppl are truly digesting the lyricism, maturity, entendres, references and overall message for Black Excellence.

He's been heading this way for a few years now, and Book of Ryan is a clear indication of that.

Also, I love Benny and Conway but dare I say he made them look pedestrian.
