i don't know if i'm in the minority, but as far as rappers producing their own shyt, i think i enjoy J.Cole's production more than Royce's, Royce's ain't that bad, but he gotta learn to do better drums, the drums sound like someone that just started on a cheap program. but as far as sample and chopping, he's slightly better than Cole on it. The best beat on the album is "Upside down" which he shines on those type of dark errie sample productions like "meeting of the bosses" or "beef" on death is certain. Sh*t that's the reason "Death is certain" is his classic album, the dark production itself
I've been saying Royce is top 5 DOA since 04 when "Death is certain" came out, people looked at me like

just cuz he wasn't the hottest rapper during that time. Shows how sheep people are. I'm glad he's getting his flowers now though, after Bad Meets Evil the album, i felt he's been getting the respect he deserves and his career has been sky rocketing since. Wouldn't have imagined it back then and though when he burned the bridge initially with Em earlier in his career that it would be a matter of time before he just fizzles with lack of a big machine support. The opposite happened and that makes me proud that one of my fave rappers of all time is shining after all this time
