i remember some controversy on the Source magazine giving Made Men 4 stars cause of Benzino if im correct? low key dont understand why Benzino co founder of Source didnt have Mad Men using his connections do features with folks or videos wonder why they didnt gain any traction...... then again maybe he did try that and im out the loop:hubie:

I’m about 95% sure it was 4.5 mics. They had almost every major artist on their/Benzino’s album except for X, Jay, and Em. After that album review a lot of people stopped holding the The Source in high regard, because that Made Men album sure as hell wasn’t a 4.5 album. 3.5 at best

It’s crazy how DMX sold mad units his first 3 albums and Dee and Waah didn’t bankroll any profits. X went atleast 4x plat for over 12 million in sales from 98-2000. They hit the jackpot right off the bat and it appears like Def Jam benefited more than they did by giving them a production deal. But I guess RR was hungry and accepted that position until Jimmy Iovine and Steve Stoute came around for the distribution deal straight from Interscope. The issue was the only one moving major units after that was Eve.

Def Jam also used Ruff Ryders to save them from Puff and Badboy totally pushing def jam to extinction. Lyor Cohen and Irv Gotti admitted that in 96-97 they was f*cked and Diddy pretty much had them on the ropes ready for Badboy to put one of the biggest hiphop labels out of business. This was after Puff came out the fire of the east west beef and death row demise with Badboy coming out on top in 97 running not only music but popular culture.

Lox plan backfired on them big time thinking they would get X numbers or attention. Lox debut album will always be their best piece of work and the most successful album. Benjamin’s will always be their biggest record. Puff was also listening to them and letting them switch from shiny suits to leather (jiggy, money Power Respect) videos. They could of had a decent run on Badboy as well getting the production, budgets and marketing. They would of been the lead act after the Mase retirement and would of put black rob, shyne and gdep on.

DMX really had the world in his hands. All those movies in a short amount of time and let drugs take ahead of him smh.

Made Men having a tour bus :gucci:

That Joel Silver was about to give DMX that bag and set him up with that movie money and he smoked that opportunity away.

Unless I'm completely tripping, HOW THE fukk do they not have a huge segment on the Roc-a-fella/Ruff Ryders Beef. So many layers to address on that. Beans/Jada of course, Jay no longer using Swizz, the overall camps, DMX/Jay, and just the whole camps in general. As much as some of the segments dragged how the fukk is that not a huge part of this.

How does Jin get his own segment and Drag - On not even get a mention? Even though OOH20 was trash, it still went gold, and Drag was apart of the "Original 4" (X, Eve, Lox, Drag)
i wanted to hear about cross & infared as well

Exactly. There was sooooo many crazy moments in Ruff Ryders history they completely skipped over. I assume it's more to do with Dee and Waah controlling the documentary and not wanting to shed light on certain things and focus more on the ups and downs of music and not get too deep in the other stuff. But this had potential to be classic if they would've touched on everything. They wasted time on shyt nobody cares about on episode 5.

They retconned Drag-On to give Lil Waah some shine :smh:

When they mentioned Ca$h Money I thought they were gonna mention how RR helped blow Juvenile up north and gave them credibility. Two songs helped Juvenile win fans up north: the Ha Remix with Hov and Down Bottom. Those came out before Back That Thang Up.

True. AZ said the move he regrets most is not signing with Def Jam after Doe or Die. His original label folded and he had an offer on the table. But someone got in his ear about how Def Jam was on the ropes so he backed out. Felt like Lyor held a grudge and blackballed him.

Needless to say shyt changed quickly for Def Jam largely thanks to Ruff Ryders, the Roc and Murder Inc.
