No wonder rap is on its way down. nikkas put out mediocre results for music, sales and talent wise, and folks will say "Well that's good in this climate."

Then folks wonder why they hear less and less about rappers in the mainstream... if you think a label is cool with 300-400k albums for artists that are supposed to be headliners, then y'all have little understanding in how the music industry works. They're not going to settle for less, they're going to find out what can be done to get these guys to pass gold with ease. Cole & Wiz did 600k+ pretty easily. Meek, Wale, Tyga & Big Sean can't seem to get that gold plaque as quickly. In the label's mind, if one artist can do it, another can too.

Not everybody is gonna be a superstar fam...and neither Meek nor Wale were supposed to be "headliners"...that's retroactively trumping up expectations to create a false narrative ...wale had already flopped and been dropped from Interscope and Meek was one loosely affiliated with Grand Hustle sitting in the bushes..they were complete non factors that over the course of a little over a year turned into legitimate acts putting up 150kplus first weeks and putting out urban formatted hits...i guarantee you warner is more than pleased with two new acts on a rapper's sub label putting up those kind of numbers, especially when they have Ross doing most of the promotion and artist development on his own in house

I'm a big fan of Weeknd and think his music speaks for itself, but lets not act like Drake didn't put him on. HOB gained a lot of attention just off of Drake's c/s and tweets.

Weeknd breaking off and doing his own deal through Universal and not doing a joint deal with Drake was a major issue among others. Just a real shady type move.

this is so disappointing the weeknd clearly had a shytload of influence when drake made take care, they make good music. Dude does seem like he doesnt give a fukk though he prolly wants to establish himself as his own brand
