Ross as an artist is still signed to Def Jam, so that's besides the point...MMG has broken out two mid tier stars in Meek and Wale, and put out 2 complilations in as many years...that's pretty damn good for a rapper sub-label...compare that to CTE or something

No wonder rap is on its way down. nikkas put out mediocre results for music, sales and talent wise, and folks will say "Well that's good in this climate."

Then folks wonder why they hear less and less about rappers in the mainstream... if you think a label is cool with 300-400k albums for artists that are supposed to be headliners, then y'all have little understanding in how the music industry works. They're not going to settle for less, they're going to find out what can be done to get these guys to pass gold with ease. Cole & Wiz did 600k+ pretty easily. Meek, Wale, Tyga & Big Sean can't seem to get that gold plaque as quickly. In the label's mind, if one artist can do it, another can too.

Y'all love making up stuff out of nowhere. Wale? Gold?

Man, the Coli stays on that good stuff.

The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, with 164,000 copies sold in its first-week. As of August 2012 Ambition has sold 500,000 copies in the United States

If he aint Gold he damn near close to it. He did 160K 1st week and it came out a year ago...doesnt seem too farfetched to me:manny:

What ever happened with that J. Prince lawsuit? I remember that being a big deal a while back with the paperwork and such :ohhh:

I think Drake is trying to either start his own thing to make money or get out of a horrible contract, it's been circulating for quite some time now.

SMART BUSINESS MOVE!!!...DRAKE and his camp is only thinking of the future in terms of negative outlook for UNIVERSAL....

which according to Reuters, Billboard and the Wall street Journal is the NEXT LABEL ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK.....

UNIVERSAL has been struggling since it's 2 Billion dollar purchase of EMI last novemeber , shrinking the market share and reducing the number of major distributors to only 3... (Universal, Warner, Sony)

Universal Music Group Buys EMI For $1.9 Billion

Now what was ONCE....WILL only be TWO EVENTUALLY... :whoo:

because what Universal/Vivendi purchased was simply a "bad debt" ran into the ground by the celebrated hedge fund firm Terra Firma which in turn sold the debt to CITIGROUP which struggled to keep EMI afloat , amongst high overhead and lofty contract obligations to groups such as Coldplay which it could not meet.....UNIVERSAL thought from an idealistic perspective that EMI with it's legendary catalog offering i.e (Beatles, Black Sabatth, Depech Mode) could maintain some valueable equity..which was NOT the case at all.

So as a result in a sort of REVENGE bidding..WARNER is now seeking it's sights on the celebrated PARLOPHONE LABEL which was part of the EMI structure which Universal acquired...PARLOPHONE contains a significant portion of the BEATLES CATLOG which includes the infamous SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS BAND ALBUM.

This comes on the heels of WARNER losing a bid to purchase EMI which wound up in UNIVERSAL's favor.

Warner Music among nine groups vying for Universal's Parlophone: FT | Reuters

And a few other assets of the UNIVERSAL family which is up for grabs.....

Also consider the russian oil tyc00n that bought WARNER MUSIC GROUP for 3.3 Billion dollars in CASH and has stregnthed it's liquid value by merging it with his financial conglomerate ACCESS INDUSTRIES in an attempt to strengthed it's market share after it's attempts to thwart the Warner/EMI deal was squashed by financial regulators.

that RUSSIAN is about to do Universal "BAD" like ALONZO in training day.

DRAKE camp made a great move......BABY should have listened to LYOR COHEN who recently resigned when he attempted to have CASH MONEY/YMCMB move thier operations over to WARNER.

Because it looks like big bad UNIVERSAL will no longer be a major in the future....

Does Universal still own Island/Def Jam and Interscope?

:comeon:

some of you need classes in marketing.
i never took any, but i at least have common sense when it comes to such things. :pachaha:

:stopitslime:

what he said is true. I just went through the process of getting a trademark and you can get the same name as someone else as long as what your business is isnt in the same field as the other business. Its called brand confusion prevention

but he even copied the logo... :keanu:
thats gotta be infringement?

I cant start "coca cola films" and use a similar logo and get away with it cause it diffrent industries ... or can I :mjpls:

Its down to the business that's being infringed upon as to whether they'll protest the use of its logo

maybach may actually like the free promotion :manny:....and ross having the maybach music group doesn't cut in on maybach's sales so its a harmless thing

there's plenty of examples of businesses reappropriating logos of other businesses and actually getting c/s'd (especially in the fashion industry)

palace and stussy both got c/s'd by chanel to use their logos because it helped them stay relevant with the young fashionistas
