Ross as an artist is still signed to Def Jam, so that's besides the point...MMG has broken out two mid tier stars in Meek and Wale, and put out 2 complilations in as many years...that's pretty damn good for a rapper sub-label...compare that to CTE or something

Was gonna say this.

Wale has gone gold, Ross most likely goin go gold and Meek in the long run probably goin gold as well.

Seen this coming after Take Care. Just seems too talented to stay with YMCMB, a branch off move for him is very feasible.

And if he does get his own label, that compilation record will be simp greatness :win:

It's official now:
Drake's OVO Label Inks Deal with Warner Bros.: Report - The Juice | Billboard
October's Very Own, the label spearheaded by Drake, has inked a deal with Warner Bros. Records.

A rumored deal was first floated by Hits Daily Double on Tuesday (Dec. 4), and a source has confirmed the impending partnership to Billboard. More details are expected to be released on Wednesday.

Although Drake is signed as a solo artist to Universal through Young Money/Cash Money, he and his producer Noah "40" Shebib have long associated themselves with the October's Very Own brand. Drake has used the October's Very Own blog to premiere new music as well as sell branded clothing, and OVO Fest, the rapper's annual Toronto summer music festival, takes its name from the label.

In Feb. 2011, Rick Ross announced a partnership between Warner Bros. and his Maybach Music Group imprint. The label has since issued albums by Wale and Meek Mill, as well as a pair of MMG compilation LPs, while Ross has released his solo albums on Def Jam.

Check back with The Juice on Wednesday for further developments.

SMART BUSINESS MOVE!!!...DRAKE and his camp is only thinking of the future in terms of negative outlook for UNIVERSAL....

which according to Reuters, Billboard and the Wall street Journal is the NEXT LABEL ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK.....

UNIVERSAL has been struggling since it's 2 Billion dollar purchase of EMI last novemeber , shrinking the market share and reducing the number of major distributors to only 3... (Universal, Warner, Sony)

http://www.vladtv.com/blog/122888/universal-music-group-buys-emi-for-19-billion/

Now what was ONCE....WILL only be TWO EVENTUALLY... :whoo:

because what Universal/Vivendi purchased was simply a "bad debt" ran into the ground by the celebrated hedge fund firm Terra Firma which in turn sold the debt to CITIGROUP which struggled to keep EMI afloat , amongst high overhead and lofty contract obligations to groups such as Coldplay which it could not meet.....UNIVERSAL thought from an idealistic perspective that EMI with it's legendary catalog offering i.e (Beatles, Black Sabatth, Depech Mode) could maintain some valueable equity..which was NOT the case at all.

So as a result in a sort of REVENGE bidding..WARNER is now seeking it's sights on the celebrated PARLOPHONE LABEL which was part of the EMI structure which Universal acquired...PARLOPHONE contains a significant portion of the BEATLES CATLOG which includes the infamous SGT. PEPPERS LONELY HEARTS BAND ALBUM.

This comes on the heels of WARNER losing a bid to purchase EMI which wound up in UNIVERSAL's favor.

Warner Music among nine groups vying for Universal's Parlophone: FT | Reuters

And a few other assets of the UNIVERSAL family which is up for grabs.....

Also consider the russian oil tyc00n that bought WARNER MUSIC GROUP for 3.3 Billion dollars in CASH and has stregnthed it's liquid value by merging it with his financial conglomerate ACCESS INDUSTRIES in an attempt to strengthed it's market share after it's attempts to thwart the Warner/EMI deal was squashed by financial regulators.

that RUSSIAN is about to do Universal "BAD" like ALONZO in training day.

DRAKE camp made a great move......BABY should have listened to LYOR COHEN who recently resigned when he attempted to have CASH MONEY/YMCMB move thier operations over to WARNER.

Because it looks like big bad UNIVERSAL will no longer be a major in the future....
