Vegas is such a weird place for all these Big 4 franchises.

I "get it." Close to Cali, lots of tourists that will always watch games...gambling etc.

How many people are really FROM Las Vegas and stay there? Lots of people working service/casino gigs. Who is buying the tickets and supporting these squads year round?

Been a few times but figure the brehs out west know how shyt works there.

For a time there actually was some tech start up jobs out there.

The people who work in casinos and hotels also don’t all work the floor. Some of them have big buy jobs running billion dollar businesses.

But mostly I think there is actually enough tourist traffic that it will just get tourists buying tickets. It’ll just be one of the potential activities if you’re in town. Or you’ll schedule the trip when your team is there.

They sell most of the seats to Cirque du Soleil most nights. That’s obvious not locals every time.

I do think they will have a lack of home court advantage from cheering in the stands.

But they will have home court advantage from the visiting team staying out too late the night before games :mjlit:

i imagine the snag is the Celtics going up for sale, the weird situation with the Adelsons, World Cup games in Seattle in 2026, and Vegas money is looking a little funny in the light rn.

From the article:

The issues for the commissioner and the owners are three-fold. First, on the heels of the league’s 11-year, $77B national media rights deal, the BOG may not want to split the revenue with two new ownership groups unless the expansion fees are exorbitant.

Secondly, Silver reiterated he’d like to solve the NBA’s local TV business before expansion. His premise is that he does not want new owners to walk into a pitiable local TV deal, and he implied again the ultimate fix would be a national streaming RSN.

A third factor for cities such as Seattle is new competition from Europe. When Silver began talking about expansion Thursday, he brought up the potential new NBA Europe in the same breath, saying “I view that as a form of expansion as well. And that’s something we’re also thinking hard about.” The cities in Europe wouldn’t be competing with Seattle and Las Vegas for actual NBA franchises, but the sense is the league can expand in a new league overseas, create significant revenue and not force NBA owners to give up their pieces of the national media rights pie -- a potential win-win.

Sounds like they want Mexico City or a team in London or Paris :lupe:
That would be dumb. There shouldn't be an NBA team outside of the US & Canada.

Mexico is not developed or safe enough for a team.

Brits don't care enough about basketball. Many French people like basketball. Regardless, a team in either London or Paris would be a logistical nightmare.
