Back in the day they had plenty of 3rd party titles as well as their untouchable 1st party ones. These days they're basically keeping the system alive on their own because most of the big devs don't even wanna touch the Wii U.
Yes, they still have fun games, but they're spread out and just the same old titles except for Splatoon, which I have to admit, doesn't interest me at all. Gaming wise they haven't been innovative for quite some time.
All this coming from a Nintendo fan from day one.

ive said it before and i will say it again: the only successful nintendo console from this point on will have to be a hybrid handheld/console. it better be a DS that connects to the TV if they want to make money.
third party developers said they liked what they saw of NX behind the scenes at E-3. Shigeru Miyamoto isn't involved with this system's concept, so we might be in for a surprise.

I don't have a Wii U, but I love that Nintendo is still supporting it. I would expect nothing less from them. Its the reason I can trust them as a brand.
Microsoft sold all its loyalest day-1 customers kinects, then stopped supporting it cold turkey.
I know with whatever Nintendo does they are never gonna leave me high and dry.
My NES was $250 back in 1990. 20 years later my Wii was $250.
No price gouging, red-rings, disc errors, drive failures, no paying for internet subscriptions or other bs.

Nintendo is working closely with indie developers for their new line of hardware (NX) and they're gonna let them experiment with their lesser IP's (for example F Zero, Punch out, Wave race etc. not necessarily those games mind you) so that software droughts will lessen.
The NX is not one thing, it's two, the handheld successor for the 3DS and the console. The "gimmick" that Nintendo is aiming for both of these is Unification between consoles, handheld and mobile, which is one of thereasons why Nintendo has acquired assistance from DeNA to help with their networking.
The NX handheld is scheduled to be released sometime next year, it will also be compatible with mobile devices and the Wii U. Expect the specs to be on par with the Vita.
The NX console will be released in 2017, it will also be compatible with the Wii U as well as the NX handheld and mobile devices. However (here's the part where some people here are gonna) while the actual specs have not been specified, Nintendo is not aiming high as they want the NX console to be as affordable as possible.
That's all the info that was given to me, you can choose to believe it or not if you wish.
It's not a bad gimmick like the Wii U gamepad tho. Solves their software drought problem. Console/handheld getting the same games like Smash 3DS/Wii U
I hope they execute this properly. Even tho they've disappointed me a lot in recent years, I'm still rooting for 'em to get their shyt together.
