Any tips for where to park if someone wants to drive from out of state go to Manhattan but avoid the tolls?
I parked in NJ before (Newark?), paid $20 to park then caught a NJ Transit train to MSG. That might be the move but I wonder how crowded it'll be now
My daily commute from Newark hasn't really been packed trains. Seems normal to me, not sure about times around sporting events though

The two main stated goals of CP are contradictory:

1. Break up gridlock by getting fewer vehicles in lower Manhattan/clean up the environment

AND

2. Generate money from cars paying the toll (the strong implication that auto traffic will remain high enough to generate alot of revenue).

Those two points contradict each other.

Which means that pro congestion pricing people get to claim victory regardless of the outcome. It's a lowkey brilliant way to "win".

So is this good or bad for the city?
Depends on who you are.

Are you someone who can benefit from shaving an hour of a round trip? or are you Broke and can barely afford to be driving to the city to begin with?
In theory, investment in public transportation benefits everyone. What they do with the money remains to be seen. Less cars in Manhattan is a W for me.

your leaving out the fact that many of those who don't pay the toll are going to use the MTA so as opposed to paying 0 to get bellow 60th before their now paying $6 RT.

I see people speaking about this as if it's a given that there will be a 1-to-1 shift from driving to riding transit. I appreciate that you used the word some, but I'm very, very suspicious that very many of those drivers will do that. I think with flex time and WFH, maybe the majority of those people will just stay home. We'll see once the definitive reports and studies on this come out later, but that's my guess.

ETA: Or alot of those former drivers will drive as close as they can to the city, park and then take transit in from there. That's just shifting things to slightly outside the boundaries of lower Manhattan.

I don't think the percentage of people that have these options is as high as you may think. All of the city jobs have moved back to 5 days x week in office. Corp America has made a major push to end WFH. As a NYC resident, about out of 10 of my peers in various fields are back to 5 days in the office. and if you don't have to go into the office(like myself) your not going in just because :mjlol:

This?

I don't get how 9$ can empty a street.
half these people already paying $15+ to cross a bridge or tunnel from out of state. thats damn near $500 a month now + parking +gas. there's a tipping point where it doesn't make sense to pay for the majority.

Just a week after this interview with Danna and, like clockwork, congestion pricing is steady converting skeptics to supporters with every traffic-free trip it creates!

[Quoted tweet]
Our Senior Organizer, Danna Dennis, was on @HOT97 breaking down the ins and outs of congestion pricing with @EBROINTHEAM!

It's not an accident that the B/D/F/M and A/C lines are first in line for signal upgrades funded by congestion pricing — these are targeted investments in the communities that need it most!

What's embarrassing is you think doing this decades late is somehow a show of how good the MTA is. Those repairs on the A train in Rockaway they should have been done a decade ago, the signal should have been replaced decades ago... This is why the MTA should be privatized!

@lindabeaux
The b f lines are connected to the N Q D so you’re all idiots
