Japan might be some perverted weirdos but they got that dawg in em, best not to wake up a nation like that. Same goes for Germany.

Russia and China are still both the main threats to the world order and peace going forward but the only reason they beat Germany and Japan was cause they both threw wave after wave of bodies at the others while benefiting from US lend lease.

At least with the Ukraine, they can dress up pure taking of territory in ideological terms where they are pushing back against NATO expansion and many people would find that complaint legit. Assume Putin's military wasn't in the state it is now. They steamroll to the Polish border, Romania and Bulgaria are again openly spheres of influence, the Baltic states are being leaned on heavily, then they look east to the Kuriles. They wait for China to make their play for Taiwan, Iran openly annexes Iraq, and Turkey says the heck with it, since everyone's having a party we're going to deal with our Kurd problem.

Japan would learn very quickly where they lie in the list of priorities.
