I am not a fan of sanctions, but I always find it interesting that a countries like Venezuela and Iran get sanctioned to hell while Russia gets 'targeted sanctions'

It's kinda hard to explain but lemme try. The reason why NATO countries hadn't gone all out to sanction Russia before now was because they were legitimately trying to get him to change course. They have no other means of recourse aside from starting a hot war with Russia. So they used the sanctions at certain soft red lines, because if they used them all up before now, he would have invaded Ukraine before now and blamed it on NATO. He would have blamed their sanctions and tied it to his reason for invading.
