Im mad that Katie Couric, who conducted the interview, didnt ask any follow-up on WHY a woman who has historically been very liberal and in favor of civil rights, etc, would have that opinion on the protest. No question on her thoughts on BLM, no straight-up asking her about the state of police and black civilians, or if she's even aware of the reason Kaep is protesting in the first place.
Nope, none of that. Because she asked none of these painfully necessary follow-up questions, we dont know if RBG is simply ignorant of the actual situation, or she has actually become
in her old age and doesnt get it. Without the knowledge, we can only assume the worst, and the fact that Couric didnt think to look for clarification makes me only assume the same about her as well.
Worst of all, Couric's failure to do her journalistic duty resulted in the entire exchange being framed in the same clueless conservative light as it has all too often been in media reporting and discussions: all focus on the anthem itself, the flag, the absurd pivot to "respecting the troops", without so much as even acknowledging the actual, critical cause behind the protest. So frustrating.
