I hate that I did not like this movie. I agree MBJ was great in it and I loved all the other actors in here too and liked them from previous work. I love vampire movies and horror films are my favorite genre so I’m not hating. Slashers and all that, so I don’t take horror films to seriously ..But both the dialogue, on screen background music (many times did not fit the scene), and some of the story direction was horrible and that’s why I never been a big fan of Coogler. But everybody not gonna like the same shyt. I’m glad for they success. Still bought a ticket

Incredible movie.

Saw it on IMAX last night much better experience.

First time was ruined because people couldn’t shut the fukk up. Had to literally tell ppl in both rows because they thought they were at home.

Sinners doesn’t have anything to do with From Dusk Till Dawn. It’s rooted in the historical view of the Blues as “Devil’s music,” said to summon dark, malevolent spirits simply because it thrived in secular, often Black, southern spaces.

The story also draws heavily from the legend of Robert Johnson—the bluesman rumored to have sold his soul at the crossroads for his musical gift.

So no, southern vampires ain’t new, and they damn sure ain’t exclusive to From Dusk Till Dawn

Stop parroting & referencing that dumbass Latino who’s jealous of of a successful film with a black cast.

My opinion: Great film. Would it be an all-time favorite of mine? No. I saw it IMAX but I left feeling that I didn’t need to see it in IMAX. I had somewhere to be so I couldnt catch the second post credits scene. The big music scene that showed how blues is the root of so much contemporary music and where it started from back in Africa was my least favorite part of the movie. It was nice but I could have did without.

6.5-7/10 for me. A couple of things

1. This is mbj best performance since Fruitvale Station.

2. This movie was heavily inspired by from dusk till dawn. I dunno how I feel about that because I never liked how the second half of ftdt turned into a completely different movie.

3.
Coogler needs to flesh out his scripts more or bring in someone for rewrites. I felt like the vampires should have burned down the juke joint—or at least attempted to in order to draw them out—as a lead-in to the final battle. Not grace welcoming them in. I didn’t like how it was nighttime and then suddenly daytime during the climax. Also, the whole sequence where smoke couldn’t go through the door when he’s already in the building only for him to bust through
later and run outside after getting hit with garlic water, was horrible.

there are definitely some jarring writing plot points that almost take you out of the movie but my gosh the themes, the cinematography, the score and overarching messages in the film just override the drawbacks. Those elements were soaring. Like 10 and 9s, 9.5s for me. The writing was about a 6.5-7 it can definitely be tighter. I loved the story of it though and the concept worked great.

This movie definitely parallels From Dusk Till Dawn in parts. That doesn’t take away from this movie’s quality or is a knock against it. Reminds me when people were saying that “Get Out was ripping off The Skeleton Key.” Movies can have similarities and still be original. I mean From Dusk Till Dawn has similarities to Vamp. But I won’t call it a ripoff lol.

same for me, I'm a breh and my favorite music in the film was the Irish joints. Very clever and just so well done. :pachaha: That young breh got a serious voice though.

I don't really get that at all

I truly feel the Vampire parts in the film were nothing more than a vehicle to get his message across about how blacks are used politically and in the Entertainment industry. The vamps(politics/Ent) literally suck the life out of black Americans and use our talents for their purpose and gain, not your own.

The Irish joint to me serves as rally cry to rally up his newfound troops.

I enjoyed the movie a lot more once I watched it at the house lol, some of the people in the theater wouldn't shut up for shyt, I love my people but damn smh. It's not a masterpiece, but definitely worth a couple watches. They could of kept the post credit scene as the final scene, the wait really wasn't necessary.

what Vampire films don't have similarities? This is the main reason why I don't like them. Thankfully, this movie really wasn't about vampires
