Yooooo!!! I gotta watch this again now that I know what to look for :mindblown: I just realized Delroy Lindo's character is the griot. He shared his own insane story on the way to the juke joint, groomed the kid sammy on stage etiquette, and even sacrificed his life so he could escape. He couldn't let go of the guitar at the end cause NOW he is the griot. it looked like he was driving off outta some hard-headed love of the blues, but he was really driving INTO the responsibility bestowed upon him now. apparently i missed to extra scenes during the credits? :francis: I wish they'd stop doing that shyt. But i wouldnt be surprised of the scenes speak to that idea

RIP Delta Slim :mjcry:

He ain't fukk with Sammie at first but, after he saw he had the gift, he was ready to protect him. Hopefully Sammie named a song after him :wow:

Shouts to Coogler for showcasing the history of Black Americans in the south and music that came from it, essentially having an influence on all modern music on some don't forget we created this shyt:ufdup:. I loved to see that. I Was always interested and watched docs on early days and origins of the blues. I'm excited to watch this again.

The scene where Lisa crosses the street to walk from her pops shop to her mama's shop really showcased how in the US there is a black and a white world. That are tied to class, poor and rich, other races find themselves caught between the two.

I just a need GIF of Smoke pulling out them twin pistols and lighting Mary ass up after she bit Stack.:lolbron:

I almost missed this film because I don't care for Michael B. Jordan but wow.

This may be Ryan Cooglers magnum opus.

Amazing concepts, insanely great themes. Superb score, good writing.
Good performances by the actors too.

The messaging alone is worth a study and dissection. Socially significant piece of film here.

6.5-7/10 for me. A couple of things

1. This is mbj best performance since Fruitvale Station.

2. This movie was heavily inspired by from dusk till dawn. I dunno how I feel about that because I never liked how the second half of ftdt turned into a completely different movie.

3.
Coogler needs to flesh out his scripts more or bring in someone for rewrites. I felt like the vampires should have burned down the juke joint—or at least attempted to in order to draw them out—as a lead-in to the final battle. Not grace welcoming them in. I didn’t like how it was nighttime and then suddenly daytime during the climax. Also, the whole sequence where smoke couldn’t go through the door when he’s already in the building only for him to bust through
later and run outside after getting hit with garlic water, was horrible.
