Said fukk it and copped a Planet Fitness Membership. Here's my experiences from the first week.

I'm not going to lie I moved pretty far away from my gym, not really thinking about it, because I expected to be able to cancel online or over the phone. It was like half a year before I was on that side of the city again and they kept charging me. It took like 30 seconds to cancel why yall couldn't do that shyt over the phone

If it was Planet Fitness it's because the place is a scam designed to draw people in that would have a low level of commitment to working out and bleed them of $10 a month while they hopefully don't actually use the gym at all. Pretty sure you can join online but can't cancel that way.

I learned that you can’t cancel on the app itself.. I had to do it on the website and even still they make it hard to find… I had to join EoS since it’s literally across the street from PF

I have issues with PF but to call them a scam is a reach. Every commercial gym I've been to(PF, Crunch, 24, LA, Fitness 19) required coming into the gym to cancel membership. That's why the FTC came up with click to cancel.

It's not a reach. Planet Fitness is a gym that purposely creates a culture to push away gym enthusiasts. Their target is a person that would have a wavering commitment to working out. They on purpose set the price low to attract these people and when they give up on working out that low price lulls them into continuing to pay because one day they'll go back.

At a regular commercial gym they price that membership with the expectation you're going to use it. It's an investment in yourself to pay that membership. You wouldn't move and forget you were a member and be unable to cancel without traveling back because you notice you're paying for it.

A gym handing out candy and pizza and shaming people for working out hard is a scam. That place isn't even training wheels for a gym starter just join a real gym.

You really have no idea what you are talking about. PF provides it's members access to fitness equipment to use if they want to. You basically said that PF is a scam because people can't be responsible adults

Planet Fitness' business only works out if its members don't

With a total membership of 18.7 million across 2,575 gyms, the company averages 7,262 members for each location. Most gyms are open 113 hours per week, a typical gym is around 20,000 square feet, and maximum occupancies range from ~200 to 350 people1.

For all 18.7 million Planet Fitness members to work out for just one hour per week, gyms would need an average of 64 people (7,262 members per store/113 hours per week) exercising during all operating hours (which is from 5 am to 11 pm at most locations).

For each of its members to work out at a more regular cadence, such as 4x per week, each gym would need to average 257 people working out at all times. This is more than the maximum occupancy of some locations, and it ignores traffic spikes during gyms’ peak hours that would send attendance even higher.

The business model depends on people not using what they're selling. They target "customers" who have a high probability of not using their product and their business depends on that to be successful.

Nah I remember when I had a PF membership back in 2013-2014. I had to write a hand written letter to their corporate office for them to cancel it because I no longer lived in the state I opened my membership

My work has Active & Fit Direct for $28 a month that lets you join a variety of gyms at no additional charge. I picked Anytime Fitness and can get into any location with my badge. The place isn't huge but it's open 24 hours and most have several power racks and a decent amount of plates and free weights.

Anytime Fitness is better. Usually has free weights, a power rack, weight lifting machines, and cardio machines. Sure it cost more but people need to invest in their gym membership or risk falling off going.

Planet Fitness is damn near a scam designed to target low commitment gym goers with a monthly $10 fee. They put up obstacles to cancel your membership and set the fee low as they hope you stop going but keep paying. They try to create an atmosphere that honeypots people who will easily stop going to the gym that’s why they lack crucial equipment real gym goers want. They don’t want real gym goers there.

There’s no need to be nervous about going to exercise. Nobody cares who’s there.

You can now only join one main gym & must pay extra for additional gyms but get $5 off

I picked Anytime Fitness as my gym and I never attempted to join another one. I can go to any location with my fob anyway.

I think a few years ago you could have multiple different gyms at the same time.
