:salute:

That early 2000s era of the "hustler" as artist was just a cash grab. Really destroyed my trust in most artists on their commercial release.

Great point that the most successful hip hop artists in the new generation are the ones who have at least some semblance of artistic credibility. In a way we should all be celebrating the trend. The days of hip hop music as a social welfare program is over.

:smugbiden:

yup, back then, everyone tryna be like Pac for the sake of selling records. All you needed was image and a Neptune beat, and you went platinum. Now, if you try to do that, your career will be stillbirth'd

Will.i.am's numbers aren't surprising. The last album had some hit songs, but it didn't sell. This one seems to be no different, except without the hits. It seems like he would've been better off droppin' that scrapped "Hip Hop" album that was supposed to feature Nas and The Game back in '07/'08.

Snoop and LL haven't done numbers since '06 and '04 respectively.

Yet when I was trying to tell nikkas about that country music on the rise, they weren't hearing me. :smugbiden:

Country music isn't on the rise as much as it's staying where it's at. Both in terms of success and style.

Good songs about life, love, etc will always sell. Other than Swift, who is really a pop artist, no country artists are selling 8-9 million records. But that's actually a good thing.

Black music messed up b/c it got too successful. So then everyone started switching up their style or trying to be too much like everyone else and it got played out.

Lost it's direction and it's REAL fan base.
