Look, his stats are mediocre and his performances are forgettable. Which young, black QB will be given that much lee-way regardless of draft pick? At best , a young black QB will be demoted to backup status by now already. Darnold is going to the Panthers to displace a black QB in Bridgewater, who is a better player than him.

There's no indication right now that he's going to be the starter over Bridgewater

That's not the point I was making. Also, Darnold hasn't shown anything for you to be optimistic about. Other than him being young and you assuming/hoping there's serious upside there

Yeah i'm not rolling with this at all OP.

Sam Darnold isnt that bad at all from what ive seen... and he played for the JETS ffs.

Hes shown flashes of talent when his offense allows him to. He deserves a shot with a competent franchise atleast.

I know its the Coli where ppl like to act like its fantasy football and you could just yank from a pool of star QB's, but thats not how the NFL works... Sometimes you gotta give a shot to a young dude who flashes talent and may be hampered by a shytty situation.

Jets are so fukking bad that I can't write off a guy in that situation. You could put Josh Allen (a guy I admit I was 100% wrong on btw) on that team and it wouldn't work. Carolina has the pieces needed for us to truly see whether he's good or not. Maybe he's just another average ass white QB. Maybe he's trash. Maybe he's good. We don't know, man.

All I know is that I hate the trade because it takes leverage away from us (Lions) in the draft. Hard to see anyone willing to trade up and take our pick now.

He ain’t shyt. It don’t matter how many weapons he got when he sucks at reading defenses.

That's a bit unfair cause Herbert's season was special. Very few young QB's are going to excel in that scenario, for the vast majority you have to say that the situation, coaching, and fit are key.

Not to say that Darnold is one of those as I've virtually never even watched his games. I'm just saying that Herbert isn't the guy to use for that comparison.
