@houston911 was the only other poster who understood what Hinkie was doing, they forced a dude out of the GM spot that got the Kings to trade them Stauskas and two first round picks for some Euro prospects who will probably never come over.

The Sixers get the Kings unprotected 2019 draft pick, and they get the right to swap picks with them this year.

Its so easy to build a team in basketball

I know we strike out on our college projections at times...but we have full time jobs

If my sole job was to be a gm and scout players, theres no excuse to not be able to build a team than can contend for titles within 4-5 years

Literally no excuses

Sam hinkie got fired and he was one of ONLY 5 or 6 gms who actually knew what he was doing

His only real mistake was okafor over porzingis

Embiid and porzingis would have been the end of the nba as we know it

Hinkie wanted Porzingis, team ownership wanted Okafor for the name recognition :dead:

It's not easy to build a good team. It's easy to build a mediocre one (and I know a couple of teams that fail at doing that).

You completely ignore the human element to a process like this. Hinkie for the most part had the right idea, but there ARE downsides to what he did.

It is easy

You clear salary and acquire picks

The sh*t is literally that simple

Team ownership really wanted Russell but the Lakers fukked that idea up and KP ducked Philly altogether (he would have rather gone to Orlando)

They wanted any of the 3 college guys, yeah Russell was probably highest on the board but Porzingis was someone Hinkie wanted and got shot down :smh:

Hinkie was not a good GM. He was trash at drafting and fluked into Embiid because he got injured. If not for that stroke of luck, this would be a five win team right now.

Is the Hinkie wanted Porzingis talk sourced around draft time that year or shortly thereafter? Sounds a bit like every former GM/coach now saying they wanted to take Kobe in '96 but didn't and blamed somebody else in the organization. :jbhmm:
