-Wearing big ass shirts wasn't part of any unwritten rule that had to do with sagging, some people did both & some didn't. Most my people never wore big ass shirts & a lot sagged, I didn't do either.

Supposedly nikkas who went to jail came out of jail and started to convince other nikkas who ain't never been, on how much fun they had in jail and told alot of ducktales about how hard (no pause) they was in jail and how feared they were...while sagging, so the nikkas that never was to or did anything to have a reason to go yet, started following those that did on some fatherless shyt until it became an aspiration to either go or appear as if you've been.​

-I can't speak on where you're from but where I'm from a lot of people wrote off big tees as corny down South shyt. It didn't happen a lot but I've seen a couple people get clowned for having them.

I don't know why the shyt was appealing lol...one of the dumbest fashion trends. I heard it started from jail shyt...but I think it caught fire because it was indicative of the culture/energy of the 90's.

Isn't it an offshoot of jail culture? No belts in jail so pants sagged. Or at least that's what my dad told me when I was a kid, he could have been bullshytting to make me stop thinking it was cool.

Also Gen X used to get hand me down clothing that was too big. Baggy clothes as a fashion grew out of that IMO

Not no jail shyt.

The best writers avoided jail and going undetected.
So jail was only some shyt for writers that generally were not thorough. Or bombed with a wack crew who got them compromised.

The sag came from running in a art or hardware store.
Racking cans in the belt line.

So we would go cop size 44 -48 joints. Then go in a lowly mom n pop hardware store. Or a true value small franchise locations and rack the new krylon flourescent colors and tips.

When walking around like that.

It created the sag and it just naturally became the look.

Gangsta nikkaz did not even rock jeans in this era. They misappropriated all that from bboys. Who they were always jealous of since the dawn of crack.
