Dude... hip hop got extra materialistic and ignorant in the 90s...
But... this decade is on a whole other level...

Its like if you pick the top 40 hip hop songs of the last 3 years, half of them would literally be gibberish... not saying 'gangsta' or 'raw' or 'ignorant' just 'gibberish' its pure call and response calls about nothing, with meaningless dribble strung out between the hooks...

I agree there is more repetitiveness but even in a Drake song where he is talking about ballin like 'started from the bottom' is more like a celebration for how far he has come.

IMO this lack of content has to do with the fact they put out albums 2x a year, mixtapes 10x a year, when guys use to wait 2-3 years inbetween to put out albums.
Every era gets repetitive and old. Its why things get hot, and then they get cold. I wont be one of those clinging on to what came and went. But no matter the changes, there was usually the same basic premise of what what hip hop was. The entire thing has been changed, and if you even question if its hip hop, the internet labels you a hater.

Personally it feels different. The entire scene and culture feels different. It isn't what's being told, or what's being sung. Scarface says there's no soul, and I agree. Its gone.

as a guy who grew up with, parents, waxes poetically about the crime infested lyrics of the 90s, I can without hesitation proclaim my affinity for the migos. Where rappers overdosed on mafia innuendo, migos, adapted for a new generation, is overdosing on their ms13 connections. Are they cartoons? Sure, but having parents, I know whats reality and what isnt. I dont live through rap.

I Agree with Rap is sounding more and more stupid(even though the beats are getting better and better), but Country is horrible, talking about repetitiveness, My aunt listens to the country stations on the weekends and I could only tell three out of how many songs they played apart.

It's always good to remember that when Face is making these arguments using words that don't exist, he's talking about mainstream hip hop. He knows, for better or for worse, that mainstream is always the "face" of the genre because it's the gateway drug to it. I wasn't 6 years old digging in the crates and going to shows to peep the underground scene, I was listening to the radio and that seems to be what Face is making reference too. He's right about the lack of soul and it doesn't mean there is no one making good music or no one trying to drop gems in their songs but overall the music does feel different and feels much more manufactured. I think the In Da Club video has become real life: Bosses build the "perfect rapper" and he follows suit.

Also remember, dude speaks from the POV of a guy who used to be an exec at a label; he knows what goes on in those meetings and what people talk about, so there's always another level to his opinion than just the average rap vet or average rap veteran. Jay was talking this same shyt a couple years ago only difference is, he's Jay so he's always going to do what he does but I can't disagree with duke at all.

Face is that dude and all...but these are generic and cliche :flabbynsick: ramblings..."I'm getting old and don't understand all this mumbo jumbo"

And what are these "brilliant" country and rock records he's talking about...rock actually IS as dead as muh'fukkas have been crying about hip hop being for close to a decade now and country follows a cookie cutter mass produced template that makes the urban playlist at any given time look revolutionary in comparison :pachaha: ...like, you don't even have to leave the mainstream...kendrick is bout to be pushed as rap Jesus at the Grammy's this sunday, what's the Country music equivalent to GKMC?

So no one is going say what's real?

Scarface is straight up c00nING.

How are you going to publicly diss what made your life what it is and big up country music in the public.
I never call anyone c00n. Happy I could use the word on "SCARFACE"

@2Quik4UHoes I found you one

true but the gangster rappers still had actual meaningful songs on their albums and not all the same shyt on every song, they switched the topics up and told relative stories instead of using the same formula in every song.

nowadays everybody wants to "turn up" or talk about moving white, drinking lean, or popping pills or getting intoxicated in some way on each song, the subject matter is basically the same.

old man bun b made a very good point in one of his interviews saying that the media embraces drug use now unlike it did in the 90's.
Where are the albums that have the same shyt on every song?

And those rap album of the 90s that had 14 songs about shooting up the block selling dope, 1 song for females, 1 song about god and 1 song about momma weren't fukking meaningful they were sticking to the same formula.

How do you know that everyone doesn't want to "turn up" on every song?

Alot of the newer rappers are pretty intelligent... like it wouldnt be fair to say 'A$ap Rocky' makes dumb music.... I think lack of creativity is more of an issue.
