Then whats DMX is motivated by?

The guys have kids he dont even know and in and out of jail

im not shytting on him but damn when did DMX do anything and not get paid for it?

You have a talent you get paid for it and if you give your talent away and dont get paid for it your viewed as a sucker

Its only us that want black people to do this just because

Jay track record for helping people and others always seem to get forgotten what have DMX done to help ....anyone

Its simple people see DMX and think " I see how he feel from grace" :wow:

People see Jay and think "Why he doing so well this is not normal...we from the same block and city whey he doing so well why he didn't slip up yet ?" :damn:

From the pool table battle they had the same path in fact DMX was selling more ....

But Jay made the smart moves thats all :hubie:

Jay did not cash a single check from albums on def jam he lived off the money he made from ghost writing

and when it was time to sell the roc def jam looked and said dame he owe him millions :patrice:

DMX could have dont the same thing and become a ghost writer but that never crossed his mind :hubie:

Rick Ross doing the same thing he have not touched that def jam album money and been ghost writing

T.I also ....Jay told them the hustle

The irony is Scarface is a far better writer than Jay-Z. Like on another whole level of writing.

Scarface is one of the best songwriters in all of music, not just Hip Hop. Nobody in Hip Hop writes like Scarface. He's up there with Sly Stone, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson and Bob Dylan when it comes to songwriting.

I've never heard any Jay-Z songs on the level of these songs:

Memorizing raps doesnt = incredible rapper to me. Jay-Z was incredible to me for other reasons, none of which are this writing in his head thing. Maybe if he put pen to paper he would be way better than he is, lyrically.

Because Detox never came out.

But realistically he writes in a way that most people don't want or need him. His style is easy to imitate and he's often imitating someone else. Who but someone like Kanye, Nicki, or Wayne would even want....that sort of thing.

Jay dropped 8 solo albums (one was a double album) in 8 years, 1 mixtape, 1 collab album.

NOBODY had the consistency of Jay if we are talking about the quality and quantity of material.
:ahh:

On Juan Ep Lil Fame said Jay got on 4 Alarm Blaze because he heard the beat in the studio and said “Wait it’s 4 Alarm Blaze and only 3 of y’all on the song” so he asked to get a verse, which of course they obliged, Fame said Jay left and drove around for like a half hour, came back and spit his verse in one take.

I mean when he tries he’s still top 3-5 lyricist in the game. His last verse on Smile is one of the best verses the last 3 years.

But not writing means not reading. Jay doesn't SOUND LIKE he's reading because he isn't and that helps the delivery. Gives it a better feel.

Also it wasn't just memorization but rather HOW FAST he came up with it. The one take nature of it.

It takes pure raw natural intelligence in addition to conditioning to do what he did. This is a natural talent developed into a useful skill and I think he should be applauded for it.

At the same time though I think people calling it "a freestyle" is stupid and the exact opposite of what it is. Raps being prepared is tantamount to them being written even without them being physically written or typed.

People know damn well people prepare "freestyles" they spit on radio (or for a time rap city) and for pretty much ALL battles but when you see someone like Meek reading his Cassidy diss off a phone or Canibus pull out a notepad in the Dizaster battle people don't respect it and for good reason.

Being able to do verses in one take and not fumble at all or having to punch in and out requires intense focus and great breath control.

I know Jay said he forgot perhaps multiple albums worth of content through this process. I also know Jay don't remember all his lyrics. I remember his forgetting an entire verse of imaginary playa and repeating one verse twice. Heard he messed up on Renegade too a few years back but I never saw that.
