Ever since I started listening to Face back in his Geto Boys era, his lyrics, voice, delivery, and production has been impeccable, and he has never came weak or half assed. Every album he has put out has had lyrical bangers on it, plus his story telling is top notch the way he pulls you in the thick of it.

[Verse 1:]
You was playin' when you was sayin' you was ready
I'm knowin' you ain't mean it when you told me you was tired of life
And just wanted to leave it you was drinkin'
So I ain't really pay it no attention
Took you back to your crib and dropped you off
With the intention of gettin' with this Asian bytch
I’ve been off in Visionz, somethin' exquisite
I had to spit that game, she was vicious
I'm hoppin' back on 6-10 punchin' the drop
On my way out to her house I started noticing cops
Somethin' tellin' me to turn around and follow these dudes
Normally I wouldn't consider but out of the blue I'm bustin' a U
I get off where they get off at
Well-familiar with these streets, this where I came up at
Roadblocks, yellow tape, "a crime scene" they say
What the fukk just happened? I just left this place...
I get out and started walkin' askin' Frog, "What's up?"
Lookin' at me dazed like, "Face, it's all fukked up..."
I move a little closer tryin' to see who it is
And I saw his baby mama in tears holdin' his kids...

[Hook]
I ain't whole in the inside I'm hurting I can't explain whats going on in me
Stop it now with all the lies I'm knowing this ain't how my life's supposed to be

[Verse 2]
And it was then it finally hit me
I'm standing here nervous as I can be
It was nothing that can prepare me for what I'm finna see
I'm praying this is a dream and I'm bout to awake
But the closer I got the more I realize fate
Wasn't fair to change for me
And why would I think so
My homie had a date with death
He had to make though
I'm feelin' eerie, I'm liftin' up the yellow tape
By the time I get to the scene
They rollin' this away
I wonder whats under this sheet, my knees get weak
To the point I had to take me a seat
This shyt's deep
When they put a nikka down that you was raised around
What was once a minor statement's turnin' major now
Never woulda thought in years that my homie was suicidal
Had it all; money and kids and a wife that read the bible
They say it's life and death in the slum
He had his reasons I shoulda believed him
Anotha soul no longer breathin'
Hate to say it but this one been heavy on my conscience
My nonchalantness just took a life over some nonsense

[Hook]
I ain't whole in the inside I'm hurting I can't explain whats going on in me
Stop it now with all the lies I'm knowing this ain't how my life's supposed to be

[Verse 3]
And everybody thinkin' it's murder, but homicide sayin' self-inflicted
By the way the body was sitting, brains in the kitchen
Who coulda predicted
But the detectives who was fishin'
fukked up that the family had to see dad in his position
All I remember was us doin' what we did
To survive in these streets where we lived
We was kids growin' up in this environment
Nothing but trouble
You either struggled or you hustled
Folded the bubble
Grade school til we dropped out, we had a plan
We was either finna be rich or die like a man
We did it all for the love of the hood, every journey
Imagine seein' your dawg lifeless across a gurney
I wonder what was goin' on
You shoulda said that you was feelin' mad
I coulda talked you outta that
But never will I see you again
Nor will your kids
Nor will your family or your friends
It's the end
Not even words I write in this song
Can right that wrong
My nikka is gone and life goes on

[Hook]
I ain't whole in the inside I'm hurting I can't explain whats going on in me

Even when you take a song and video such as No Problem, very simple in the way its shot and delivered, no jewelry, women, cars or clothes, just Face walking down the street rapping to you.... and it still hits harder lyrically then most out there.......

Face never needed no bells and whistles like a lot of nikkas...All he needed was some heat to go off on and he'll make you a classic without really tryin

fukk all particulars whos more influential, has a better discography in the south overall & was top 5 when nas, pac, jay, big, cube & the wu was considered the best of the best in the world

He was literally the only nikka in the south holding it down as a true emcee & killing rappers when nikkas mostly new york was dissing the south

He's a real deal artist, not just rhyming to rhyme. His verses are more like Shakespeare soliloquys than lyrical miracle cipher style. Sets a tone on each track organically, never comes off forced. Is more likely to be profound than clever.

Influenced all the greats. There is no Ready to Die or Me Against The World without Face.

Longevity, track record. Even his album last year was great to me.

i know i shyt on face often...but im a truly a huge fan..

fukk bernard freeman tho...

early scarface, i have said before....is scarface putting his 5150 ways and lil troys d-boy lifestyle on wax

nikkas talk bout that shyt...

but brad jordan...is a real life case number...n being in houston texas 14-25 yrs old didnt make his handicap better...because its land of the fry...nikkas say htown the city of syrup...

but 90% of ya favorite rappers from houston..are wetheads...

being from sunnyside...then migrating to 3rd ward when he was with lil troy...to the 5th where its nothing but zombies....face was goin thru it...

he didnt change until big mike came in the picture...mike was a animal..face felt he was a threat..

n its funny they both dropped albums in the same yr..after the geto boys album...focused face..u will get the diary

What are his best joints that haven't been posted already?

breh, to answer your question: Scarface is a morose and heartfelt rapper. Definitely a great rapper. Superb writer. I personally wouldn't put him in my top 10 because I like more upbeat, stylish rappers.
His production is also mostly a miss, and much of it is the same  vibe.

You'll have a lot of frauds respond to you in this thread posting some bullshyt music, pretending to like Scarface for daps. Face has some undeniable joints but not a ton of them.

Lemme help you out:

Can you please show me what I'm missing with this dude? Is this a case of 'you had to be there' to get it? Or he was a 'game changer' or more iconic?

@bugsmoran
Its all of the above

you had to be there to understand the way he changed the game

U hear Scarface in 2 pac. Biggie. Jay z. Eminem. Dmx. Joe Budden. Master P. Young Jeezy etc

Jay z explained Scarface really good in his book Decoded and Chris Rock described him good in his Rolling Stone issue about his favorite rappers of all time

The best way I can explain him is he was the first rapper to bring his baggage/personal problems to the booth

He put the Real in Reality Rap

Ice T. Schooly D and Nwa made it cool to rap about what was going on in their hood. Then Scarface came out and made it cool for mc's to rap about what they was going thru mentally, what mood they're in.

A few rappers before Face touched on the drug game in their music but Face was the first to put out a whole album based on the drug game and everything that comes with that game

He's great at Reality rapping but he's also great at using is imagination and telling Story Raps

Scarface is the forefather of a few genres of HipHop. Trap Rap. Horror Core.. And what Joe Budden calls Mood Music

Face is the first from the south to show that south rappers can be lyrical. Before Face south hiphop was all about booty popping dance music.

So to sum it up that's why u see Face in a lot of cats top 5 of all time list

If it weren't for Scarface, there really wouldn't be a South, he's the closest thing the South has to a GOAT contender, his discography albeit light on classics, has few if any wack joints.

But more importantly Scarface touches the soul, he takes you on a journey through his shoes and that's a rare characteristic of any rapper.
