I think the political move is to call for open school, wait for the kids/parents/teachers to refuse, then back down. Best way to get through this blameless.

Like others said it’s going to be a disaster .
The schools that are scheduled to reopen first are southern/southwestern school districts which is exactly where Covid is making its biggest spike right now,if they have in school learning like Trump and those governors want and an outbreak occurs it’ll send shockwaves up north . Chicago Public,Detroit Public,New York Public and the other super teacher unions wouldn’t hesitate to shut it down before it even begins if issues pop up down south . Charters will get stuck too because if people see the major public districts freaking out they’re screwed also .
There is already a teacher shortage because of regular bs regarding the profession throw COVID into this equation and whatever theoretical plans people may have might not even get off the ground.Mass exodus.
what about kids with development issues ? They need the one on one or small group attention but they’re the same population that may be more susceptible to COVID or will have issues following the guidelines
imagine trying to make sure an 8 year old is properly prepared with ppe all day ,now multiply that by 30
What about older kids who may not give a fukk
Kids who may be suffering from COVID related trauma but now have to go into a building where they may catch it and take it back home with them
asthmatic kids or kids with sickle cell that are susceptible..what do they do ?
all this rolling right into cold and flu season ?

If I had to guess, it's a political decision. They call for a full return then, after pushback from parents, teachers, and the union...they go to distance learning and come out of a difficult decision making as few people angry as possible.
