i remember years ago at work when I grew a beard I had to cut it, then as the years when on a bunch of hipster cacs had full on beards and nothing was said

TBH, I've noticed the same thing with cacs with beards, tattoos, and dreadlocks.

I've read endless articles about black kids and teens in school getting suspended and expelled for having dreadlocks and having to cut them off to get jobs/for their job, but yet I seem to see endless white people with dreadlocks and tattoos employed and there's no issue about it.

It would be the men without tattoos and piercing that stand out. I use to love tattoos but its a bit played out for me because almost everyone has them. I wouldn't turn a guy down for having them but it doesn't catch my eye.

Tattoos existed well before you were born, how can it be played out to you?

I guess they've only liked them for the last 10 years. You know, when it wasn't "trendy".

10 years ago, there would be studies on why dudes with beards and tats are the worst of society, with pictures of biker gangs, rappers and MS-13 members as study pieces.

Yes tattoos have existed for centuries but they were never the norm in Western culture until recently.
I see men with tattoos all of the time. When I was a teenager and in college I use to love guys with tattoos, perhaps because as the author stated I saw them as going as the norm, but they have become the norm so it doesn't stand out as much.
