This topic would have to be several books deep to be fully covered. There are so many factors!

But every time I see the average man complain about overpopulation it just irks me because I've never really seen a proper case made for it. Malthus came up with the theory back in 1798 and when he died the calculation for world population was at about 1 billion.

I'm not saying he was a complete idiot, and scarcity of resources do increase with an increase in population. I'm just not quite convinced we're at that point yet...moreover I believe we will most certainly reach a point where it will feel like overpopulation is the main issue (perhaps at 14+ billion) and we'll just ignore the issue of bad logistics and cause genocides when, if we tightened up ourselves as a species and curbed greed, maybe the world could work with up to 20 billion people.

I can 100% see a future (maybe year 3000) where humans look back and say, "they didn't need to take the measures they took back in 2200, but they were primitive so ".

Well here's the rub why he was incorrect, we had the "green revolution" which is it's own conspiracy rabbit hole. We couldn't sustainably produce food prior to advanced farming techniques and "pesticides".

In addition, historically when our population reached a certain density diseases usually came and "corrected" the amount of people that were living within a certain space. We got over this through effective waste management, vaccines, and simple hygiene procedures that weren't previously known or widely communicated in Malthus's time. In Malthus's time we weren't too far removed from bloodletting, burning people at the stake, and giving opium to babies so they would sleep the whole night.

There is absolutely no way we would have enough food or to be able dodge diseases to sustain the population we have without the advances we've made in the last 100 years. But those same advances are a double-edged sword that potentially are making us weaker and sicker. Cancer and diabetes were not a thing 100 years ago.

My fear as the population grows is, we don't have the waste management systems to deal with the level of population we have. Without getting too technical, look at the PPM of plastic in ocean water...look at the PPM of plastics in OUR OWN bodies. Plastic is one of the keys to our growth. Look at our carbon footprint and the amount of climate change we're experiencing. Batteries aren't an answer because of the net environmental destruction they create is equal to fossil fuel burning. Cobalt/lithium mines are literally the most contaminated places on the planet.

Overpopulation is not a space issue. It's a waste issue.

It's hard to predict what the future will look like and your fears are not unfounded. Can't no one promise we won't drop back to 4 billi due to some calamity developed through some company's/country's disregard of risks. Can't no one promise Russia won't say fukk it and unleash the flutes on the world.

The earth population is rising too fast. You can thank those poor asian countries where they breed 10 children where half of them don't make it past 18. A horrible parenthood, treating kids like expendable assets, but it's been like that in their culture forever.

In first world countries there is actual lack of population rise because many adults don't wanna have children due to their careers. America is gonna enjoy the steady rise of indian and other asian immigrant rise over next few decades.

First world countries are the ones using up all the resources despite having low populations. Wtf is regulating starving 3rd worlders going to do?
