I can't co-sign this. Their next two albums were good and then they dropped Game Theory, arguably their best album to me. Their next two albums were great too. And I think all of us fukked with Undun.

Granted I will admit that for most of the Obama/Jimmy Fallon years they became this weird lovable-but-not-really band that felt like an act suburban white people say they love but can't name a song.

I liked Game Theory, a lot.

But it wasn't on the level of what they did on Illadelph, DYWM? or Things Fall Apart. And the difference, Malik B was back!

When he was around, they were better.

Scott is a session player he's not the producer. Hence the piano man diss. He always needed guidance. Even the hits he made alone he was just playing shyt and people picked out the parte they like. He's not the visionary. His best runs are still under other producers. Solo he has no musical identity as a producer... As capable and proficient as he is. He got all the drip and no style

I’m surprised he doesn’t just join another band

I guess he’s just content on trying to be a “one man band”

Facts.

I also think it's because you don’t see producers really developing artists anymore. Nowadays, they market themselves the way you would market an artist before. But they don’t put sh*t out, lol. I don’t even see dude getting placements anymore. And he's one of those cats that can really make any kind of beat. He just fell off crazy.

Yeah that plays a huge role

It feels like there’s just no structure and everything is just free falling now

Above the fray.
The Roots hated everything and everyone back then. They 100% got the energy they gave out.
Yep......and despite all that posturing about real vs commercial hip hop, they signed on for this with one of the top selling artists of that era. They drew a line in the sand, then hopped over it.

Keep in mind his wife out here threatening to call ICE on Mexican workers
That was actually his previous ex-wife lol

His more recent one he claims that he was high when he married her and tried to get an annulment

He knows how to pick them and seems to make great decisions in general....

The same mafukkas who argue about the same 30 yr old topics regarding rap shyt they wasn't involved in.................. In here like: "Why is this guy still talking about his personal experience that's 25 yrs old?" :dead:

I believe everything he saying because Questlove is a know pretentious a$$hole. So much so, that he even speaks about how other artist checked him and how he knows certain artist avoid him because he was so annoying. He even said it is like he couldn't help himself like he autistic.:mjlol:

*I see one of them signatures behind Storch, says "MAGA" something. So fukk them podcasting crackas.

I wasn't bumping E-40 or The Click but when they came on The Box I was made aware of them. So you didn't leave your TV on BET in 96? Clones and What They Do was heavy on Rap City. What They Do as a concept video was a conversation starter around my way. That specific video was one of the things Nas used to justify going at The Roots when he was beefing with them. If you didn't have cable, I'd understand.

Big fan of The Roots music. I'm pretty sure they could have been hating back then. But I love their discography with or without Storch.

My favorite albums are

Undun
And Then You Shoot Your Cousin
Illadelph Half-life
Game Theory
Things Fall Apart
Rising Down
How I Got Over

Fukk it their whole catalog.

Yeah he made some great club records. None of which get played anymore

The Roots had the biggest commercial success of their careers with Phrenology and Game Theory is probably the best album they’ve ever done
game theory is the best roots album?
