If the rest of the world wanted to change, and changed, India/China would be forced to go along with it. India is too poor and China is too greedy to go it alone. All we'd have to do is collectively stop trading with any Chinese/indian industry that failed to adopt the necessary standards and they would run to comply.
The issue is that WE'RE too greedy. We don't want to do what's necessary, so we blame others. Even America alone, if they became a frontline leader on this shyt, would eventually drag the rest of the world along.
It's really an indictment on the human species that we cannot come together collectively to solve and/or mitigate such an existential threat. Sometimes I think cimate change is too slow moving and complex for the average human brain to understand. Most people wont understand how serious the issue is until it effects their lives personally (via severe weather events, war, droughts, food/water insecurity etc) and even then I doubt they'll have enough smarts to tie it to the overarching issue of climate change.
We'll either
1. keep voting in politicians who don't fully grasp the severity of the issue and instead implement hollow & half baked measures to combat it (Biden)
or
2. Vote for fascistic politicians who either outright deny it exists or use it to scapegoat more vulnerable communities (Trump and MAGA)
Either path invetibly leads us down the road of collapse
By the time America is ready to get serious on climate change it will be far far too late
