With OP being a big Bron fan, this makes no sense. Add in that Mitchell is a scoring guard (an undersized one at that), and I REALLY don't see how he's getting shít for being the only guy who showed up this series consistently.

Buddy could have averaged 40 and they'd have still lost in 5 or 6 if no one showed up.

I like to pile on so these are my favorite threads :russ:

I'm also against small backcourts so this is another data point that the shyt don't work regardless of what it looks like in the regular season

I've never seen this guy make a sensible post.

He's an undersized scorer. Those almost never take you to the promised land.

However this loss is on other cavs players and the coach. Mitchell did what he was asked to do. The bigs were underwhelming. Like you have a clear advantage in the paint and Allen scores 2 and 9 points over the last two games? fukk outta here with that shyt. And he had like 4 rebounds

Also coach of the year playing entire series through Mitchell. Yeah ok that tells you they were desperate and couldn't get other players into a rhythm.

Jalen Brunson is an undersized scoring guard, so that's not a real defense of Donovan Mitchell. Allen Iverson was an undersized scoring guard. This board LOVES Isiah Thomas, who was an undersized scoring guard, who I've been told dialed back his scoring for the betterment of his team success, but was a natural scorer...

That's not a real defense...

What is a real defense is that his teammates didn't show up. They were ass this series and its pretty embarrassing given analytics said the '25 Cavs are a Top 10 offense of all time...

Back to the Brunson thing, another direct comparison is how strong of a playmaker Brunson is, in comparison to Mitchell. Mitchell doesn't make great reads and is also a chucker, another difference with Brunson...

Him being small isn't a real defense. He got MVP votes on a 64-win team and led a historic offense...

Ultimately I'm just having fun with this thread, but I stand on, theres a pattern of him being underwhelming come playoff time. There's only so many times you can lose as a favorite with ~60 win teams, or blow playoff leads, or get outplayed by the opposing team's star guard, and its acceptable. We can acknowledge both that his teammates underwhelm often while also acknowledging that Mitchell isn't That Guy...

Brunson is small and its been abundantly clear since he went to New York and got the keys to the whip that he IS That Guy. Mitchell being small isn't that relevant here...

So why did you make this thread?

Do you know what patterns are?

In all seriousness, Donovan is about as good you're going to get from an undersized guard.

He's not in top-10 player conversations and he isn't weaponized in any capacity over players who're better than him, so I don't really know why we need to put him under the microscope. He was about the only player on his squad who bothered to show up too, so that can't be ignored.
Ye this loss wasnt on him

I am not calling Mitchell that guy. Him being undersized is one of the reasons why he's not that guy

You look at NBA champions from the past and you won't see an undersized backcourt there outside of maybe Detroit Bad Boy Pistons.

Mitchell and Garland is a 6ft3 and 6ft1 backcourt. Those don't get you far in the playoffs. At least Brunson has teammates with great perimeter defense to hide his so so defense.

Iverson had one really successful season in his MVP year, but he wasted his time playing in undersized backcourt with guys such as Eric Snow, Anthony Carter, etc.

Pair Mitchell with someone taller in backcourt and they may go to conference finals. They won't win it all though cause he like you said he shoots too damn much. But in this series it's not Mitchell fault that other teammates were p*ssy as hell. There is no time to send these losers to a psychologist when you have a series to play. No one showed up but him and coach couldn't come up with a plan how to punish Pacers in the paint with a supposed to be a good front court of his. So it was either Mitchell carry his team or watch them get swept.
