With OP being a big Bron fan, this makes no sense. Add in that Mitchell is a scoring guard (an undersized one at that), and I REALLY don't see how he's getting shít for being the only guy who showed up this series consistently.

Buddy could have averaged 40 and they'd have still lost in 5 or 6 if no one showed up.
This is the problem and why bringing up Bron doesn't make sense.

He shot 11/36 from the field and 5/18 from 3 in Game 4 and 5. His 3 ball was broke this whole series. Mitchell is simply too streaky and small with his skillset to be a championship #1.

Why should he be exempt from the credit/blame game given to other star players?
If you didn’t watch just say that.

You’re citing %’s ignoring the whole context. He couldn’t explode at all off his foot.

shyt is sad fans don’t deserve for these guys to put their bodies on the line.

They saying this guy is not a NuMbER One OpTiOn but there’s a very short list of guys who are better or on par with him as a half court scorer in the league.
Nobody expected the Jazz to do anything when they were the 1 seed either. Same with this years Cavs. Now it's look, Mitchell ain't that guy.

When you're a great player, at some point you're expected to win or at least get to the precipice.

It's more of Mitchell having teammates who didn't step up
Donovan was unstoppable at points in this series but no one else was doing anything

Except I did watch. I ain't ignoring shìt. He's had the same streakiness during healthy post seasons throughout his career and doesn't have the all-around versatility and size to impact the game outside of scoring.

If the Knicks take this all the way with Brunson, the undersized thing won't be an excuse for Mitch anymore.
Mitchell's backcourt mate is a 6'1 point guard that can't defend.

Brunson's backcourt mate is a 6'6 Mikal Bridges that is a very good defender.

3 guys in the starting 5 missed game 2.

I didn’t say that he shouldn’t get any blame. I’m saying it’s tiring that it’s the extent of the discussion.

The reason it’s so fresh in my mind is because this same poster has another topic trashing SGA for the Thunder POTENTIALLY losing a series after a single game against the Nuggets.

Folks can’t do shyt but single out a single person and put all the onus on him.

"Yeah but we said retarded things about Tatum/Joker/Giannis so allow us to say retarded things about Mitchell"

When someone is a perennial All-Star/All-NBA player, discussions get had about what their ceiling in accomplishment is. Playoff success is a part of that.

Total team output is going to be accounted for but this is just the other side of the coin for when he's had his 40-point coming out parties and people wanted to build the "Wade with a jumper" narrative. Aight then here we go.

Page 1 of this thread is not a great reflection of The Coli as a site with bball knowledge

2 repeated talking points:

1. His team sucked
2. At least he showed up

1. Greatness and great players can take scrubs to the NBA Finals. In the last sequence he missed an open layup, missed multiple free throws (?) and blew a contested layup.

That’s just a small microcosm of the game - and yes, it was obvious he was gassed. That’s expected, and he can be less gassed by… developing the skill of passing and enabling. Greatness would have passed and found a way to find open players.

Does his team suck? Yes.

All year people were saying “Check the Cavs!!!” and I was like “nah.” WHY? Because fukking Evan Mobley and Garland are *NOT* making an NBA Finals run. Because Jarrett Allen is not an NBA Finals supporting player type player.

That said: IF Mitchell was great and not really good - we would have seen mentally different versions of these over indexed players and something could’ve happened.

2. Him showing up is bare minimum if he wants to be considered great. Yes he showed up to get buckets. Did he show up to lead his team as their mental leader who would not accept mediocrity from his team? I don’t know but it doesn’t appear that way, Did he bond with the coach to where they were a 1-2 punch? I don’t know, but it doesn’t appear that way…

Bron took nobodies to the Finals. NOBODIES.

Greatness finds a way.

P.S. them choosing the white coach as Coach of the Year tells you these voters don’t know shyt. Bickerstaff is the obvious COTY becaue he turned “dysfunction and losing” into “we made the playoffs and looked good”.
