So there's Space Command which is spinning off from AF Stratcom into its own department (if i understand right) and there's a separate Space Force which is its own separate branch of the military.

I still need to wrap my mind on the difference and responsbilities of the two.

Correct. The irony of all of this is that the Air Force started off as a operational element of the Army...the Army Air Corps in 1926-46/7 when the AF was considered an actual branch.

This space fukkery is the same thing.

It makes sense, but not now with money being tied up in weapons dev and acquisition of the LRB and F35. 45 is trying to create a diversion and pander to his stakeholders.

We'll see the attention to results after the 2020 debacle.

Good question. That's what they say but Trump can pardon, nominate, and get waivers for his security clearance. They have the votes in the senate to confirm him. I wouldn't overthink it much.
