Or even what's your take?
I opposed the undeclared "war on Isis" that put us there and I'm oppose to the more expansive war efforts in Syria many in this thread seem to favor.
:yeshrug:This is nothing but positive to me... we are saving billions of tax payer dollars, American lives, and moving(slowly) towards an end to the perpetual conflict we have been engaged in for more than a decade.

Trump did the right thing here, but for what im sure are the wrong reasons.

@DEAD7 Fair enough.

I only wish we could have done so without screwing over the Kurds. Or at least leaving them in a position to successfully hold the territory they have now.

A strong Kurdish presence makes the region more stable. Kurdistan and Kurdish held areas are routinely the safest and most stable areas of the ME.

And you need allies, your only buddies can't be a bunch of autocratic petro-states who are the price of a barrel tanking from open rebellion. It never hurts to have someone strong and capable in your corner no matter what the situation.

We won't see the effects of Trump's incompetence until the next administration takes over.

Yeah pretty much this. Usually a lot of Trump's foreign policy is initially framed as a win by media and people but the whole time i just be like :patrice:. I'm not against troops coming home. Fuk all that warhawk, warcats or whatever it's suppose to be kind of talk. I don't like seeing death and billions spent either but i, as a fellow american do worry about if we are going down a long road completely unprepared.

because any direct military action taken against iran would lead to them shutting down the the oil flow out of the gulf, 40% of the worlds crude passes thru this stretch. Shale developments have lessened OPECs market share and could pave the way for the United States exiting the region.

hopefully one day America can have a relationship with this region, but it needs to be on their terms and economically beneficial for all.
We can pray that an american exit may lead to a decline in violence :ehh:
Not only that Iran has ballistics missile that will target the Gulf countries oil facilities which will have them offline for months maybe even years. Not to mention the chaos that would be spread by Iran’s proxies that would permanently destabilize the Gulf countries.

That’ll certainly be the case, both Assad and Russia know the Kurds give them significant leverage over Turkey which they will not hand over for free. The Turkish threats are bluster IMO, and the Kurds certainly planned for this possibility.

As fukked up as this is I hope Russia forces Assad to see relative reason and that his continued existence relies on keeping Turkey in check. :francis:

Whole situation is just fukked and the Trump admin is determined to make it all worse by the day.

Turkey is falling back and taking their W elsewhere.

I think Iraqi Kurds will take in some, but Erdogan has been itching to just lay down the YPG with heavy fire and slaughter them wholesale for years now. Some will flee, but most will die. It's their home after all.

What the US should do is just partition Iraq along sectarian lines like the people want. :yeshrug:

Perhaps you could separate Kurdistan cleanly, but the Sunni/Shia lines are too complicated. Try to divide along lines and you'd get some horrific human rights result like the Indian partition, with people being driven from their homes, fleeing their homes, small-scale ethnic cleansing, etc.
