How much is it? Is there a training you can get that comes with this clearence as a byproduct.

although you cant just pay for it yourself- it cost a company 35k and up to sponsor for a TS

that is why most companies don't sponsor civilians much- unless it is someone who had a clearance that has expired or some one going from Secret to TS

How can i obtain this as a civilian?
You need to be hired by a company that has contracts with the military and the company is willing to pay to get your clearance.
I never really knew how valuable my secret clearance was when I first got it. There are different levels of clearance. I got secret clearance. I really didn't need to get top secret for the work that I was doing so I didn't apply for one. My clearance allowed me to work on military contracts. We were not on a base. But, we had to get a badge to get into these special locations of the building to do our work. Heavy metal doors and ID scanners to get in. No windows to the outside. All computers inside were linked to an internal network. No connections to the outside. If I wanted to check my e-mail, I had to leave the secure area, go to my office and get on my regular PC that is on the regular network.

For secret clearance, they go back 7 years into your past and top secret is 10 years (from what I recall). You fill out a ton of forms detailing what you were doing for the past 7 years. Work, residence, friends and relatives, people who knew you when you were living at an address. They check everything you put down and then some. If you give garbage or lie, then you won't get clearance. They'll check your financial background too. If you are deep in debt, you are a risk for taking on bribes in exchange for information. If you have a bad criminal background, that's not good either. Also, any trips outside of the country need to be provided and why you went there.
You have an interview with a security person every year to ask you if anything has changed. New girlfriend/wife or change in residence or out of country vacations. You also have to proactively inform them of any changes like if you move to a new apartment or home.

Another way is to get hired by the US government, not a contractor, where they would get clearance for you to do work. CIA, US Military, NSA.

Pretty much your company has to either contract to the DoD, DHS, CIA, FBI etc.

Well, it's not really training but more of a "here are the rules, don't break them". Selling classified information to an enemy is a big no-no.

It's funny hearing y'all young nikkas talking bout "I'm thinking bout gettin a CCNP, where do I start :obama:"

Y'all gonna be in for a rude awakening when you get a CCNP, have no experience, and end up serving up frappuccino's at Starbucks

u can get your cissp, but it's best to have a strong networking background first at the very least. Security is a wholistic segment of IT. You have to know a little bit about everything. It's not just about creating ACL's and putting permissions on folders.

It's about securing databases, securing ingress and egress traffic from the network, securing communication to and from 3rd parties, and a whole bunch of other shyt.

Honestly, security is a fukking headache. The majority of the time you'll be arguing with infrastructure on why they should or should not take a certain action. That or you'll be cleaning up the mess from upper management and their fukked up decisions :snoop:

My last job I had to secure a platform that the developer said should not for any reason be placed in the DMZ. The highers up was like, "what's the worst that could happen :troll:"

shyt had about 100k users data (SSN, DOB, address, etc)

It's so demonic, friend.
