Like at what point did it go from us being kids or younger and just enjoying rap, to now sitting here listening to Billionaire Hov telling us what he’s got, what we don't have, etc. I’m not hatin on his success, but where’s the entertainment in that? And on top of that, we're paying (him) for it :heh:

Now I know everyone on the Coli is making six-figs, but even at that, you still can’t relate to 99% of what he’s talking about.

But look at other genres of music and it’s a stark separation of how it’s presented to the listener. No other music is the presenter telling you all of what he has(unless it's love or something like that) and what you dont have.

Hes not the only one who “kicks the braggin raps”, as Nas would say….but even the younger dudes, like Drake, Cole, Wale, etc have other sh*t to rap about other than how much money they have.

So is it just that Jay is the last truly successful rapper left from an era many of us grew up in? The Golden era of rap, if you will….and so we listen to him because he’s still here?

Why do we listen to music period then?

matter of fact..why do we watch movies? Why do we vote on certain politicians?
Why do we watch sports?? I mean they the ones who get paid.

Why single out the camel..when there are a hundred other things you can question.

I think OP makes a good point. Jay has that mid-90's nostalgia (not to mention a good marketing campaign). I don't like Jay at all, but it seems like everybody else does. He's also somebody to look up to, unfortunately. He built an empire. He's more famous for being famous at this point. His music has fallen off, but we'll keep listening to him because "we're supposed to." Not listening to him is like not watching a new James Cameron movie. You'll watch that shyt, even if you know it'll be bad.

Real fukking TALK!!

I guess alotta impressionable kids and hopeless dudes live vicariously through his raps. I knw dudes who stan him in real life and they keep talking about Beyonce...owning this and that...like they the ones doing it. Sad.

Jay was my fav rapper at one point and I still fukk with his old albums...but I grew up man. Somewhere down the line hearing ''Basquiat bytch'' got boring to me.

He's had an extraordinary journey but I get h's not skilled enough to convey that without coming across :umad:

By contrast Nas dropped a grown man tape reflective of his age and current situation.

I listen to him because his music is dope. also to the following for the same reason...

Brotha Lynch Hung - I'm not a serial killer/cannibal
Rick Ross - I'm not a big drug kingpin
Prodigy - I'm not some super gangster
Curren$y - I don't even smoke weed

Hell, if I were to only listen to rappers I could relate to, I would have no one to listen to. The funny thing though is that though is that this question mainly gets asked about Jay-Z as if he is the only rapper nobody can relate to, and that we should ignore because of it.

me? Because I like his music

this forum? Because the coli is filled with gluttons for punishment. Why else would people constantly listen to someone they can't stand?
