You say Nas would switch places with Jay but what the fukk does that have to do with music? Who wouldn't switch places with someone who has half a billion in the bank....but the problem like dude said earlier is that Jay stans think that being the richest/most recognizable somehow equates to him being the GOAT rapper. Where exactly is the logic here? I got Nas as the GOAT simply due to the fact that he has more classic tracks than any other rapper and if you look at his discography as a whole its better than any other rapper's. Pretty simple :yeshrug:

Consistency, Story-telling ability, Versatility.

Also important to note that I'm a huge Jay fan, Jay-z is what got me into hiphop and I considered him the GOAT until I dived deep into Nas's discography. Nas's unreleased material shyts on 98% of rappers' entire careers.

Good answers...keep it up...

Me and my boy were talking about this after hearing "BBC" on MCHG...He felt that BBC was tailored for Nas with his flow and delivery. He said, "why hasn't Nas made more "radio" songs in his career?"

Got the wheels turning in my head and I honestly thought about it for a minute...would we look at Nas the same way if he had more "radio-friendly" songs? Maybe part of his "mystique" is that he isn't all over the radio...
Certainly not, at least not if he was making "intentional" radio hits. I think it's something that has "tarnished" (I use this term VERY lightly) Jay-z's career. Although Nas has made radio friendly songs, it certainly isn't at the rate Jay has made (or attempted to make). Now this opinion depends on your perspective, if I'm going to call someone the GOAT rapper, I expect that person to be an artist. That's what Nas reminds me of, he just screams artist to me, Jay's image to me is just a businessman. I'm not trying to say Jay-z isn't an artist, trust me, he is, but I just don't feel like he really cares about his artistic integrity. If you had to rap about being gay and sucking dikk to make money, Jay would do it, while Nas would follow his artistic visions. Jay has the ability to send a message to a huge number of people, he could talk about a lot of stuff and influence young people in a very positive manner but he definitely didn't do that on his latest album (compare to LIG and Untitled), and I feel he hasn't done that enough in his career.

This is all my opinion, don't get mad yall.

I agree with everything you said except to me Jay is a better rapper than Nas. However Pac still the GOAT.

Then I read the bolded :laff:

Only difference is Nas tried the pop route, multiple times, the shoes just didn't fit :yeshrug:

Nowadays I feel like songs like "We make the world go round" and "Summer on Smash" aren't even his choice but are forced on him by the labels...

Jay does have a much different style than Nas and I can understand someone calling him a better rapper. Jay uses a lot of metaphors with double and even triple meanings, which is very impressive. He says shyt in a simple way but the metaphors is what makes it dope and it flies over his mainstream listeners heads. I know Nas has tried to make a few pop songs, but that wasn't going to dominate his entire style with it. Yeah, I think it's relatively acceptable to have 1 or 2 poppy type songs just to move more units, but Jay has an established fan base right now and his own record label, he doesn't need radio singles anymore... This is the time in his career where he should really be flexing his creative muscle imo and its disappointing he isn't. I liked MCHG but it seems like a bunch of singles to me, not much depth either. Meanwhile, I'm still bumping Life is Good. I'm not really huge on Pac tho, I like some of his stuff.

So is it necessarily a "bad" thing that Jay has MANY plates on his table and he dips in all of them? Like doesn't hip hop NEED a perspective like that? You know, from the "top"...sorta like Bill Gates giving us how it IS on the top of the (business) world but can still give you (pardon the pun) the blueprint of how he got there?

Like Jay is the uncle, or parent letting you know how the "real world" will be while also living in that "real world" like advice and a peek inside of that closed door MOST of us will never get to see into...

Artistic integrity has nothing to do with dignity. If you weren't a complete moron you would understand the nuances of what I said.

You have a great mind and an astounding mastery of the english language. I'd love to hear your opinions about the theory of evolution, global warming and ending our reliance on fossil fuels. Also, Blood isn't blue. It's red. It's never blue.

Here my reasoning for NaS>>>camel

Esco got the goat album in Illmatic.
The most creative LP in IWW.
The most creative song in I gave you power.
The best verse debut to the masses on live at the BBQ.
The best guest appearence with verbal intercourse.
The best LP in the 90's,00's,and 10's Illmatic,Stillmatic,Life is Good.
Greatest diss song ever with ether. Won the biggest battle in history over jayz.
His non album cuts such as the lost tapes and other songs are better than most artist albums.
Plus we see him grow as a person from each album from the chip tooth kid in the qb PJ's to a father of two. Not only has he put his high points on wax but the lows as well. From failed relationships, divorce, losing friends to jail and death, passing of his mother, problems he had with his dad and brother, problems about his daughter, taxes, and so on. We cab all relate to many of those things. And no two NaS albums sound the same because of his growth as an artist and a person..

I can also add that he grew up in a legendary place (qb) with a great legacy, he was there since the cassette tape era era and still there, he made featurings with almost all the great rapper and challenged his skills with them. He had enough versatility to make songs with Keri Hilson, then Killa Priest, then Blitz, then Joss Stone, Damian Marley to Korn, to Beastie and on and on...

The ton of his voice on the mic places him above the rest kinda like when Michael was singing with his brothers, you clearly see the difference, he just sound nice even with simple rhymes
He also have a style of rap that became unique, from multisyllable to rap with words effortless that don't even rhyme most of the time
He's just unpredictable with his rhymes, he's litteraly one of the few cats where I expect new references in each verse. Like when he comes with phrases like

"Begin like a violin, end like Leviathan"

"I’m as live as hive full of predators
Twenty thousands different species of bees
Some half poisonous sting, some just pollinating their leafs
It's just like rap, some will buzz some will attack, compromising their own life in fact"

"She Queen of Nzinga
Winnie Mandela, Ida B. Wells
So why can't you tell? Why can't you tell?"

"Private planes landed out in Teterboro, weed I twirl
Once even gave me a phobia
That I be in a spot trapped like Madame Zenobia's
With this kid eyein' my Rolly, y'all"

I'm like where does he comes with that :ohlawd:

Everything about him his legendary, from the way he came out into the game, from the way he got produced by the best with their best beats, to him being mentored by Large Pro which was mentored by Paul C, and signed on a legendary label.

Oh and one of the most important thing, he NEVER lost touch with the streets, no matter what even on LIG he kept telling ghetto stories, talking about legendary street cats from his hood, and not just referencing popular figures or fictional characters, I still feel the street era in his slang and rap, thing that Jay lost a long time ago, kinda like Eminem lost that I don't give a fukk attitude and trashy humour that we all used to like. Nas never lost his street flava. And I can relate more because the thing that get me the most with him, it's his ability to take us back to his memory lane, and greater days, Wheres' the love or Back When are the best example of that.
