I'll look into DSST. The reason I didn't consider CLEP is because I can take the PERT (then the AAF) to test into Calc. 1. Unless you're telling me to test OUT of Calc 1.
Yes, I'm saying you can test out of calc with a clep test.

I also want to question why you're considering ending your HVAC career? You can easily make six figures. My dad does HVAC, makes great money, has two pensions and great benefits.

I'm currently finishing my MBA from Georgia Tech. I took out $70K in loans. I felt the payoff should be worth the investment. For an engineering degree from GT, I think it would be worth it as well. Just my opinion.

These Eng kids coming out of undergrad with no experience getting paid $75+K. CS/software kids up in the 6 digits. If OP has relevant work experience he should do better. :yeshrug:

I'm sure @Rekkapryde can elaborate.

I need to get back in to school to finish this mech. eng degree. I'm 33 and don't want to be a 40 yo black man in America w/o a degree. Yes I'm a skilled tradesman in the HVAC industry but I don't feel like working my ass over into my golden years. I want to be the mechanical engineer techs complain about. I got 27 credits into my AA but my biggest but conquerable obstacle is math. I want to test into Calc 1 and continue from there. I'd be finishing my AA at a local CC before transferring to FAU—the cheapest public, 4-year uni in FL. I'll be damned if I get stuck in the abyss called student loan debt. Why do I want to take out loans then? SO I can stop working and attend fulltime. Eventually my savings will be depleted. All that said, what say y'all?

You really have to study Math

Calc 1 isn't all you gotta worry about
For a Mechanical engineer degree. The Math classes you would have to take would be

1. Calc 1
2. Calc 2
3. Calc 3
4. Differential Equations
5. Linear Algebra
6. Physics for Engineers 1
7. Physics for Engineers 2
8. Physics for Engineers 3
9. Thermodynamics
10. Strength of Materials
11. Other Mech Ebmng major classes

That's what I'm saying: I've taken all the easy classes and electives. Now, everything else has a Calc prereq. I've even done Intro to Eng.
They should have online calc classes :manny:

Depending on what work you want to do, some schools have 3:2 programs. Also your CC and the university you plan to transfer to should have some connection to each other, so maybe you can get financial information for that

i went to school full time and had at least a part time if not full time jobs. not sure why you think you need to stop working to go to school.
Depending on what he’s going to school for and what he does, working and going to school at the same isn’t easy in the slightest.

I say that someone who just finished my MBA while working a full time job.

I do residential. I'm not part of the union and I'm an installer. If become a tech/sale, $80k+ is possible.

didn't say it was easy. it's def doable though. especially if you are really about "no loan debt" as he says he is.

HVAC can start @ 50 hours easy during the summer and spring.
it's 168 hours in a week. but even so....i'm pretty sure there are part time hvac positions.
if not, i'm pretty sure there are part time other positions that can pay for tuition, especially if you are going to the cheapest school in the state lol. FAU is less than 5k a year. that's a layup

I was a ME mjaor in undergrad for 2 years. I got to Physics II and Statics and Dynamics and had to switch to business.

I realized I wasn't about that life. :sadcam:

Oh, since you're in HVAC, you might want to look at where that degree can take you.....and why I decided to go back....
