The way he chopped up the sample for Players deserves props on its own

i was at a dilla tribute show in DC a few years back, and i got more than a few confused looks referring to him as jay dee.

dudes i know that are real heavy on him didn't even know what welcome 2 detroit was until i dug it out of my collection for them :pachaha:. embarrassing, and quite a few of these guys are relatively big names in the (relatively small) dc scene, i'm always tempted to put them on blast on facebook when they hold their dilla e-circle jerks

Madlib and doom are better than dilla tbh

oh hell no. DOOM fukking sucks as a producer. madlib is okay. dilla has classics under his belt. how can you compared those two to dilla?

you guys are acting like dilla is made out to be tupac.

I respect this coming from a real Dilla fan. Btw the track The Ummah did for Janet Jack with the Joni Mitchell sample was :ohlawd:

see breh making threads like this then dropping posts like this would make someone believe you've been a hp hop for five years
Dilla not the ummah produced the original and jay dee's revenge remix track
he got jacked for the og

Dilla is the master of sampling. The way he chopped his samples, uncanny. Real dope. The drums were dope. Dilla stuff was simple but it was soulful, heavy and beauty. Madlib is other worldly. He is a completel musician. Samples, jazz, lo fi all that ill shyt, that's Madlib. He might be the best producer walking the earth. He can do anything.

Hip Hop? Naw. Dilla? Yes. I've been a Hip Hop head my whole life just like majority of other n*ggas from Brooklyn. I would say I've been hearing about Dilla a lot for the past 5 or 6 years though due to me navigating the online world more. Even Nas said he didn't know who Dilla was until around '06 and that n*gga is IN the industry. As for the Ummah/Dilla track Idk the backstory of it, I was just going off of what information was giving to me.

Not at all. I've heard some of his music and wasn't extremely impressed like everyone else. Due to this thread I have a better understanding of some of the things to look for when listening to his music. For me it's more of an acquired taste; his music doesn't necessarily jump out at me, but I watched the documentary someone posted in here and developed a appreciation for his art. My intentions are not to take anything away from him I just wanted to know what made a large group of people follow his music almost cult-like.
