Bills don't stop coming, but if you're a highly paid athlete then your money from your playing career should set you up for life. Divorce/child support is one thing, but if you have let's say $50mil in your account after you retire then you should be straight. A lot of these athletes don't pay attention to their yearly expenses.

Yeah, there's well to do ppl who retire with a couple million dollars and live a top tier lifestyle. Traveling, new houses etc

If you retire with 50 mil you should be able to live an insanely great life and still be nowhere near broke.

exactly… there been a few nfl players I seen open up they own insurance businesses and working 9 to 5

Jamal masburn working 24/7

Since retiring from basketball, Mashburn As of 2018, he owned over 90 businesses, including 34 Outback Steakhouse franchises, 37 Papa John's franchises, and a number of car dealerships across the state of Kentucky.Mashburn is a partner in Ol Memorial Stable, along with former Kentucky coach Rick Pitinoand Outback Steakhouse co-founder Chris T. Sullivan,

If u notice a lot of these players girlfriends and wives was also in on it…

which means these fools want to continue to live that work free , party all the time lifestyle

fuk them
Mashburn getting to the bag :ohhh:

expecting a millionaire athlete to jump in and grind out a 9 - 5 like everyone else after living a certain lifestyle is unrealistic. i doubt they would be able to function properly in non millionaire society :mjlol:

its like a convict coming home after a 20+ year bid. they will struggle to adjust to the outside

I remember people shaming Cole from Martin for having a car dealership. That is what people do to former "stars" that get 9-5's earning an honest living. I agree with Shannon that they don't need to be above it, but look at how people treat these folks when they forge a regular life for themselves. It's all discussions about how they "fell off" or making fun of them.

They shamed Geoffrey Owens from the Cosby show for working at Trader Joes too:

I used to take part in that shyt but I realized how destructive it is to do that to people. It ain't right. Let these people live.

Says the man who gets paid millions to talk about sports knowing he will never have that struggle.
He could lose it all tomorrow. There are a lot of people who tied up their money in the wrong investments or were hit with a lawsuit that cleans them out. Look at Bernie Madoff’s victims. At least he has enough sense to know he would have to work if it all falls apart.

Y'all keep missing a big part of the point.. It's not like they get out, they got 50 million and there's a crowd of people saying "GET A fukkING JOB!!!"

No.. They've ALREADY fukked up their money. They ARE broke. They don't have money. They are left in a situation where it's "get a fukking job" or "do something illegal for money"... Cause NO money is there anymore.

These dudes ain't got 2 million stashed and making licks for 50k. Nah these nikkas is BROKE. Pride should already be gone. Kids need clothes. You gotta eat and need a bed to sleep in. What you gonna do?

You saying at that point, these dudes is still above getting a job? So what the fukk should they do then?

Any NBA player can go sit on the end of a bench at some mid level D1 school and take home 80k as an assistant coach

That's what I'm saying

Like, how the hell is Tony Allen just not sitting on somebody's bench teaching 2's & 3's how to play defense?:mindblown:

They’re under the impression that being poor as a kid stays with you forever and that being wealthy for decades couldn’t possibly alter how you see the world around you.

I fell you, but somebody who came from absolutely nothing has a wayyyyyy different perspective than somebody like Paris Hilton or Donald Trump who's been rich their entire life.

Shannon know about ketchup and syrup sandwiches.

Dudes talking about players didn’t make that type of bread..

it don’t matter if they was making 2 million a year or 20 million a year

they in a industry unlike many of us , where they close to connections

perfect example.. John Salley of the pistons.. only was making 2 million a year in basketball, but like he said he talk with veterans who had connections and was able to earned more money or get involved with other projects by those connections

a lot of these players are like a lot of these rappers.. only care about a certain way of life and how others see them in the hood and don’t think outside the box

John Salley was one of the most famous members of one of the most famous teams of all-time:aicmon:

Like, he's a terrible example. That dude was on TV all of the time when I was a kid on NBA Inside Stuff or in "Bad Boys" with Will Smith & Martin Lawrence, even when he was playing basketball.

He wasn't just some anonymous guy who was living on a D-League contract or played a few years on somebody's bench, he was famous.

Good for him but at the same time it's kinda sad because even after taxes I'd assume that is $25 million in capital hitting his bank account over his career.

That's enough to get paid 400k a year off dividends from Walmart stock. He could've bought some serious commercial real estate with that. Talking several 80 unit apartment buildings.

A real/honest financial advisor that isn't trying to rape these players pockets could have a meaningful career dealing with these guys.

What's sad about it? He's likely already making 6 figures doing that job and didn't waste his money doing stupid stuff otherwise he wouldn't have passed the background check. Sounds to me like he's set himself and his family up very nicely.
