Exactly. These simpleton nikkas refuse to acknowledge that Pop took FULL, 100% control of the Spurs in 1994 and ran the franchise his way and did things other franchise werent doing like drafting hella internationals and load management.
As a COACH he was unproven

D Rob was no where the same post 96 and even then...it was him and D Rob and who else? He was damn near a one man gang until 2005...and still was winning 50 plus games
They had the second best defense in the league. Back in that era you didn’t need a super loaded team to win but they had two top 20 players all time. In most eras you should be able to win a chip with.

Whenever a coach produces Great players(Tim, Tony, Manu, Kawhi) over a long period of time and has been successful most of that time (20-22 years in the post season, 5 rings) people will say it’s a system

and because so many people came out of the Spurs to go on and be great elsewhere. That has built a perception around Pop.

look at Sean Marks, soon as he turned the Brooklyn Nets around. The first things said were

Sean comes from the Pop family tree!!!
Sean comes from a long lineage of great people Pop produced
That POP system keeps on cranking out great talent!!

don’t sit here and act like I’m lying either :pachaha: everytime someone from the spurs does something great elsewhere, it’s always this
The San Antonio Spurs organization has been prolific in seeding other NBA teams with coaches and executives -- all at tribute to the work of Gregg Popovich.

And yes it is true, Pop did a legendary work with that front office and team, obviously. However...and I always say this, perception is everything.

Tim Duncan has become somewhat underrated and a good part of it is acting like ALL of the Spurs success, or atleast 92% of it goes back to Pop. Never mind Duncan dragging those spurs teams to the post season early on.. it’s all about The Godfather Greg :pachaha:

Again, pop did legendary work, but the causal/face value look at things takes some credit away from Duncan and because Pop did produce many good front office people, that adds to the perception that it was ALL just a system, which takes away individual credit from the players on the court such as Timmy
