The Magic were garbage before he got there and they had a +20 win differential his rookie season and won 50 games his 2nd season. He got to the Finals in his 3rd season at 22 years old....and this was with a coach who had no success outside of the Shaq years.....that’s not doing shyt?

Got to the finals and were swept and by a much lesser team (Rockets were the 6th seed in the west that year) Of course they were garbage they were only a franchise for 5 years before Shaq was drafted...went to LA got whooped by Utah until Phil-in arrived,put up monster statistical seasons but didnt win shyt until Phil was the coach...IM not one for these system arguments but you could make them for alot of players if you want to be lazy....Neither Duncan or Shaq were system players but you could argue the same thing against Shaq hes trying to argue against Timmy...
I dont agree with Shaq but i do think had tim gone to a truely bad team (as a #1 pick) he would not of had the team success like he did but his offensive numbers would go up
Sure you could say Shaq didnt a win a title before Phil but to say he “didn’t do shyt” is ridiculous when you consider how quickly he turned the Magic around and got to the Finals at 22 with a bum coach. Also helped win gold in 1996.
you can’t make the same argument. Pop ran the Spurs entire operation from 94, even when Phil got to the Lakers he didnt make personnel decisions and create the entire composition of the franchise. That’s what Pop did with the Spurs. Phil came as the final piece to get Shaq-Kobe to reach their full potential. Pop was acquiring players that contributed to the 99 title before TD got there. Shaq didn’t arrive in LA in 96 to “Phil’s franchise”. He put in some footwork before Phil got there. When TD arrived in 97 he was pulling up to the Pop show.
Phil Jackson was a head coach hired by Jerry Buss and Jerry west to get the Lakers over the hump.
Pop was a VP/GM who installed himself as coach so he could further have control over the vision he had for the franchise.

That game 6 was one of...I'll say this...the Lakers won Game 7 and wiped the floor with the Nets in the Finals. At the end of it, they proved their championship. But I have never seen anything like the officiating in Game 6 WCF before or since. Whether the league demanded it or whether these refs had a personal stake in extending the series....it was a bad look all around.
