I already talked about this pages ago you dudes don’t know how to evaluate defense.

Jokic has his limitations on defense but is an underrated defender who knows how to drop back on P&R coverages and has great hands to deflect passes and strip guys in the low post (he averages 1.5 steals a game) and is a strong defensive rebounder. His goofy ass also will at least run out with his arms up to stretch bigs.

He does have limitations switching and as a rim protector and can be exploited in certain matchups and that might be a crutch for him winning a championship and that’s the point of the thread. How Shaq would fare in playoff series being P&R’d repeatedly and how his impact would translate.
nah your obsession with down grading past players like Shaq solely because you don’t think today’s players get enough love is :scust:

Orlando Shaq or LA Shaq would be able to stay on the floor. This is a silly ass thread .

He's definitely playing less minutes in this era.

Considering he lost series where exploiting him on P&R's was a priority it could be a big crutch for him in winning a championship not putting up individual numbers but winning and having the impact he had in his day.

Him going up against LeBron or a Steph Curry-led team would not be good.

Exactly

Shaq deliberately put on that size because center's back then like Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson, Mutombo, Sabonis, Smiths, etc. Were big and strong.

If he played today he wouldn't need to
Nah, it was because he didn't give a fukk.

Also y'all severely underrate the size of modern centers. Hakeem was no bigger than Bam Adebayo.

Embiid, Jokic, Drummond, Vucevic, Valanciunas all these guys are 6'10-7'0 and weigh 270-285 lb.

Stockton and Malone pick and rolled that nikka to death in the 97 and 98 playoffs :mjlol:

Pistons in ‘04 Finals too :mjlol:

they most likely lose to the timberwolves in the 04 playoffs before the piston have a chance to if both Sam Cassell and Troy Hudson don't get hurt and their to pick and roll/pop his to death

Still athletic and much more skilled and moves his feet better on switches

these but but but he don't dunk as hard as shaq as nikkas :mjcry:

Embiid is averaging 30 this season and Shaq was way more talented. Add in the fact that there is a lack of defensive bigs. You mention Jokic as if he isn't atrocious on defense:mjlol:. Shaq would dunk on him every time down the court.
Shaq wasn’t way more talented

The stupid thing about this thread is the NBA is a copycat league, Shaqs dominance would have the same affect Curry/analytics/3 pt shooting has on the league to say otherwise is dishonest.....

Shaq would ball out in this era. Defensively he'd be pretty exposed though with how much pick and roll they run nowadays.

The 718
I just tried to imagine Shaq trying to defend a player like James Harden & can't stop laughing. He'd get abused so bad in the PnR, isolated to death & put into foul trouble.

Or him trying to defend a workhorse like Steph out on the perimeter who will rain 3s on your ass if you only give him an inch.

He'd still be dominant but he'd be food on defense every night against the elite guards.
What stupid fukking team would have Shaq guarding these guys consistently????
